Proton RCS Phone Carrier Messaging Service
RCS is an "upgrade" to SMS/MMS messaging with read receipts, typing indicators, the ability to send larger files, and encryption. Proton can implement end-to-end encryption for this service, similar to many others. No other company could pull off a service like this like Proton could.
I'd also love to see a feature that allows users to sync their messages to their desktop, similar to Google Messages.

I think this is a good idea, even though we already have apps like Signal, Session, etc. RCS is meant to replace SMS, but unfortunately it is not integrated by privacy-friendly companies. Moreover, its implementation is left to the discretion of these companies.
I also think that if Google has ventured into this area, it's because there is a massive amount of data to harvest. In particular, many sensitive services still rely on SMS, which goes through these RCS apps that require being set as the default SMS/MMS app as well. And when someone doesn't want to switch to another messaging platform (e.g., WhatsApp), RCS remains an interesting alternative.
This could serve as a starting point for a future integration with Proton Meet, and conversely, integrating "Proton RCS" into Proton Meet.
Integrating traditional phone calls would be more complicated, in my opinion. Even though you didn't mention it, I know other comments would likely bring this argument to the table.
1) In my view, the priority should be to build a dedicated app for RCS.
2) Add Proton Meet functionality into the app, and vice versa.
3) Then work on potential SMS/MMS integration. (Hard part, may not be worth. Look at what Signal did about that) -

MLS encryption is now added to the standard. All we now need is a client as an alternative to Messages on iOS and Google Messages on Android. It should be possible in the EU due to the DMA.
