Proton Home – Smart Home Management by Proton
I’d like to propose a new service called Proton Home.
The idea is to have a central platform where users can manage all their smart home devices securely and easily, directly from their Proton account.
With Proton Home, you could:
Control smart lights, thermostats, cameras, and other smart devices.
Set up automation routines (like turning off lights when leaving home).
Share device access securely with family members or trusted people.
Monitor device activity and energy usage in one dashboard.
Keep everything private and encrypted, in line with Proton’s privacy-first approach.
Essentially, Proton Home would allow users to manage their smart home in a secure, user-friendly, and privacy-focused way, integrating it seamlessly with the rest of the Proton ecosystem.

Setting up a smart home platform in the proton ecosystem and integrating it into the other proton products in such a way where I accidentally connect my AI app to my electrical fixtures when I'm just trying to open my email is the quickest way to get me to cancel all my proton subscriptions.

Home Assistant makes smart‑home management secure, private, and easy to use by running most automations locally and keeping your data inside your home. Its open‑source approach allows constant security review, and its interface works well for both beginners and advanced users.
Its strengths are straightforward: local‑first security, privacy by default, wide device compatibility, an accessible yet powerful interface, and a large community that keeps improving the platform. This combination gives users a flexible and reliable system that doesn’t depend on any single company.
Because Home Assistant is already mature and widely adopted, building a new smart‑home manager from scratch would mean recreating years of integrations, testing, and community work. Improving Home Assistant instead is more effective and sustainable: contributions help millions of users, strengthen an existing open ecosystem, and avoid fragmenting the smart‑home landscape with yet another separate platform.

I would like to connect my smarthome (home assistant) with proton services. But doing it's own smart home hub will be at best too limited.
