On an iPhone, in Proton Calendar, you can request access to contacts to obtain a "birthday list" and create an individual calendar (which can be disabled in case anyone is bothered) that allows you to see birthdays in your address book. This calendar could be configured to only display them, or it could even be configured to notify you about them.
