Secure messenger, chat, contacts and calendar on Proton (and Proton Drive)
Dear Proton Team,
First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone at Proton for the outstanding services you provide, not only to your community but also to the entire technology world. Over the past several years, I have come to see Proton as one of the most remarkable companies I have ever encountered, operating across multiple fields with a clear and inspiring mission: protecting users' privacy and digital freedom.
I know the challenges you face are not easy, especially in a world where censorship continues to grow in many different forms. At the same time, I also believe that we, as users and members of your community, can contribute by sharing ideas that may help improve the Proton ecosystem even further.
For more than seven years, my IT team and I have relied on Proton's secure services while working at the international media organization @canaltx4. Alongside Proton, we have also been using Mega.nz for over ten years in other areas of our infrastructure. Throughout all this time, both platforms have proven to be extremely reliable and trustworthy.
While using Proton over the years, I noticed that its interface is excellent: intuitive, highly customizable, elegant, and rich in features. However, regarding Proton Drive—which I consider one of the most promising services within the Proton ecosystem—I feel there is one important feature still missing.
I believe Proton would greatly benefit from offering a secure internal messaging platform, allowing Proton users to add each other as contacts, communicate privately, share folders and files more naturally, and collaborate without relying on external services.
Whether integrated into Proton Drive or released as a dedicated application, such a service would fit perfectly within Proton's mission. It could include secure one-to-one conversations, group chats, encrypted voice and video calls, and seamless file sharing—all protected by Proton's well-known privacy standards.
In my opinion, this would significantly strengthen Proton Workspace, making it even more attractive for both personal and business users while allowing collaboration to remain entirely inside the Proton ecosystem.
Another feature I believe would be valuable is the possibility of setting a profile picture across the Proton ecosystem. Although simple, this would make interactions more personal, visually recognizable, and even more professional for users and teams who choose to use this feature.
After many years of using Proton's services and experiencing the excellent results they have delivered, I sincerely hope these suggestions may be useful.
Thank you for everything you have built over the years, and I wish the entire Proton team continued success in your mission.
Best regards,
Eduardo Sartoli
