I think the Proton Mail desktop app should be free for everyone, including users on the free plan.

At the moment, having to pay to keep using the desktop app after the trial makes it harder for people who simply want to use Proton Mail on their computer without paying for a subscription.

The desktop app should be a basic way to access your email, not a paid feature on its own.

Making it free would help more people switch from Outlook and other email clients to Proton Mail. It would also make it easier to use Proton Mail as the main email app on Windows, including when clicking email links or sending emails from other applications.

Paid plans could still offer extra storage and other premium features. However, I think every Proton Mail user should be able to use the desktop app, regardless of whether they pay for a subscription.

Proton promotes privacy and accessibility. Making the desktop app free would be a great way to help more people use Proton Mail every day without having to pay just to access their emails from their computer.
