Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

+1 for this feature.
Alternatively a secure browser based chat in the interim?

Great! It's 2016 now!! I'm waiting :)

That is an amazing idea. You could also just use Tails, and Pidgin, if you want that kind of security and anonymity.

I would love this! A high-security, encrypted CHAT. I love ProtonMail, but what about ProtonChat?

make an encrypted chat option...it will be faster and more awsome then and will be very useful for group and team conversation

Video calls just like in hangouts would also be very welcomed.

I would suggest to build something like Signal by open whisper systems. Something that is not necessarily linked to protonmail accounts (or only protonmail users would be able to use it), but something like whatsapp. It could make you so much more famous.

ProtonChat with OTR would be beyond helpful.
Please implement it. -

A lot of mail clients have chat, so I think XMPP support for protonmail would be great so long as it enforces OTR!

Holy cow I can't believe the votes here. Look at RetroShare.org folks.

Will have to send a password each time you have to communicate with a non-prontonmail profile no ?
I am not against a chat in protonmail, but I would prefer to see the Tox project grow up and reach its maturity. No account required, don't need the browser to be open to receive notifications.

Some kind of jabber or xmpp client extension that works encrypted with all contacts would be so awesome I won't have to pay for my vpn anymore or use pidgin otr and force other's to get the plug in. I would need nothing else but this email client for everything. It would be too awesome to be true.

I'm a bit afraid of the way some other email providers have shoved messaging and such in the face of users who don't want it in the past. Trying to turn it off was nearly impossible with one provider a few years ago who just implemented it and logged you automatically to their IM type service every time you checked your mail, without every asking you if you wanted to even sign up for their messenger service. You were just on it and anyone else who used the same mail provider could see that and IM you. It's the sort of thing a lot of users are likely here to avoid.
If it's added, I'd at least like it be something you have to enable under options which otherwise is not visible *at all* on the mail page or apps so people who don't want it can comfortable pretend it doesn't exist. :)

I would love to have this feature, but it should allow for end-to-end encryption with users who don't have protonmail as none of my contacts do.

I like the idea but the Messenger has to be some how encrypted just like the ProtonMail e-mail too or the messenger won't be safe.

I recommend using the source code provided by WhisperSystems. TextSecure looks pretty good and works great already. You could use the code from their browser extension to put it into the current interface somewhere. Please don't add another chat program that only works among protonmail users, it would never gain traction. Join the efforts with the developers of TextSecure instead!
