This is a critical point for me. Using Bitwarden since some years (and KeepassXC), a desktop app is not just useful for me, but essential.

I'm still using "SafeInClound "- it's a great app but not superb. I will be honest with you guys, please don't judge me, I know it's stupid but Russian names behind this app (sorry Andrey) have leaded me to change to Proton Pass. I bought the 12€/year forever subscription and this is maximum what this kind of tool is worth to me. A desktop app will really help to maintain all the passwords we store.I've checked other tools as well like Roboform etc. and hope Proton will rock the Universe ;) Thanks Protoners.

After reading other comments, my vote goes for a desktop app. :-)

The desktop application is necessary, browser extensions are not enough.
I remember that all competitors have a desktop application. -

A desktop app is like a necessity, no question

Desktop app (for me cli is even more preferable) is must. I use multiple profiles within multiple browsers (Brave, Firefox, Edge, ...), that means that every single profile uses its own user data store with dedicated instances of all plugins, including proton pass. Currently the only option of accessing proton pass service is not browser/profile independent. Moreover it requires signing in to my proton account as well as unlocking, etc in every single browser profile. Using multiple browser profiles is must for me.

Coming from Keepass, I miss the desktop features it provided like auto-type.

some plugin or browser problem/bug/update and all my logins and 2FAs are no longer available until the problem is fixed.
WLAN/Network problem and I can't fix it because the required logins are not available.
For me an offline & independent solution is important. -

Although interact with web extensively, not all auth is for websites, and I prefer to manage the passwords from the desktop app just like Bitwarden (the other Password Manager I currently use), also this would come hand in hand with the offline access too, there's a lot of stuff being done properly by Bitwarden and for now it is hard for me to switch over to Proton Pass, at least not while there's no Desktop App and Offline Access, and even custom fields, because that's the features I interact with the most on Bitwarden.

A Doug....tnx for the info. Using Mac M1 and Ventura. Took a shot at using iOS originally. Followed "how to export and import" for 1Password. Export went fine to 1PUX file. Import... no go. Proton Pass "works" if I fill using copy/paste on each line of each individual site. Autofill is disabled, but checking around, can't find any way to enable. For the time being, I'll stick with 1Password. Tnx! Have a good one.

A stand alone application would be needed for putting in (autotype) arbitrary windows rather than just the browser. I remote into machines via ssh etc and use that ability about as much as in the browser.

barely any password manager has a desktop app so it would really make you stand out. it's also a prerequisite for me to even try using the service

Just in case this helps anyone else. If you're using a newer Mac (M1/M2) and running Ventura or higher- you actually have the ability to run the iPhone/iPad version of Proton Pass on MacOS. Surprisingly, it runs pretty decent. Also gives you offline access to your vaults! It's nice to not have to open chrome just to get a password for a native app.
Just in case, here's more info on how this works with MacOS using Apple silicon: https://support.apple.com/guide/app-store/iphone-ipad-apps-mac-apple-silicon-fird2c7092da/mac

I use many desktop apps (discord, steam, ...) and so do many other people. I could survive without this but it would make life so much easier

Been using password apps for a long time. I do NOT use them on my iPhone or tablet, only on my desktop iMac. PLEASE consider an extension for macOS.
Not critical yet.

If you wana be indepent from big tech this is critical for usage to avoid beeing switched of from all accounts you trusted in.
Happy that ProtonPass is alive, a plugin for Chome helps to survive inbetween.Desktop should be available as flatpak for linux as well to be able to get out of big tech dependencies .

Important but not critical. This feature will be implemented in the future for sure. I don't think it will be for 2023, 2024 maybe ?
