Hi Proton Team,
I’m a long‑time Proton user and I appreciate the strong focus on privacy that you bring to email, VPN, Drive, and now Lumo. I’d like to suggest adding a dedicated, privacy‑first chat/messaging application to the Proton suite.
What I’m Asking For
A secure instant‑messaging app that offers:
* End‑to‑end encryption for all messages, voice calls, and video calls (similar to Theema’s or Signal’s model).
* Self‑destructing / disappearing messages and optional “ghost mode” where no conversation history is stored.
* Cross‑platform support (iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux, and web).
* Seamless integration with existing Proton services:
* Use the same Proton account for login.
* Attach files directly from Proton Drive.
* Optionally route AI‑assisted replies through Lumo (e.g., draft replies, summarize long threads).
* Group chat capabilities with granular admin controls and invitation links.
* Two‑factor authentication and device management consistent with Proton’s security standards.
Why This Matters
* Completes the privacy ecosystem: Users already rely on Proton for encrypted email and VPN; a chat app would let them keep all real‑time communications under the same trusted umbrella.
* Reduces reliance on third‑party messengers that harvest metadata and content.
* Leverages existing infrastructure: Proton already runs zero‑access encryption and secure key management; extending this to messaging is a natural next step.
* Competitive advantage: Few mainstream providers offer a fully integrated, privacy‑first suite covering email, cloud storage, VPN, and now chat.
Possible Use Cases
* Teams collaborating on sensitive projects without exposing data to commercial messengers.
* Families sharing personal moments while preserving privacy.
* Individuals needing a secure channel for health, legal, or financial discussions.
I believe a Proton chat app would resonate strongly with the community that values security and privacy. Thank you for considering this suggestion—I look forward to seeing how Proton continues to expand its privacy‑first toolbox.
Best regards,
