Any updates here since 5 years :( ?

Can I suggest this gets implemented by building a fulltext index client side when the messages are decryptable, and storing that index using the same encryption keys as the messages themselves.
This will mean the index is protected with the same measures as the mail itself, but we can still use full body search client side.

The documentation says 'search on the message body cannot be implemented because these are encrypted except on the user's machine'.
This is clear - you cannot do server-side message body search. And you should not be able to.
otoh, message body search is absolutely required.
So, how to make this possible?
Fairly simple, really. If a user wants to do client-side search, they need a local download of all emails they want to be able to search the body of. You are now offering the export app - this makes it possible to implement message body search.
Please do so as a priority - it is a real bar to me recommending the service to others. -

I need to search all my emails for a person, a subject, a term, why can't i do that? why? why? why? Why is this such a difficult thing for you to do? why? why? why? that seems like such a simple thing to ask for a sophisticated system and email such as this. I am entirely disappointed when I can't remember who sent me what on what subject over hundreds of emails and years of emails. I NEED TO FIND THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

To be able to search the mail body within web client or mobile app is a MUST feature IMHO. I honestly cannot understand why this feature gets so little attention comparing to such nonsense things as "Dark Mode".

Searching does only include Name an Email. No Organisation can be searched. There should be a possibility to search in all fields of contacts and Emails.

Yes, this feature is becoming increasingly essential when it comes to thousands of messages; now we look for documents starting from fragments of memories. The lack of body messages search is likely to leave Protonmail years behind other services like Google.

How much longer do you think? It looks like this has been in the "works" for almost 5 years. Sure would be awesome to have this much-needed feature. 🤞🙏

The search engine cannot search in the body of the emails at the moment. In the future this would be cool.

This is really frustrating, as this is a very basic function.

I use Protonmail for business purposes, so the flow of emails is high. When I need to find a particular email, the current searching system allows me to find the needed mail only by the recipient, subject or sender. But let's say that I send lots of email to the same address but the context of each email is different. So it still takes time to find the right one among the others.

Why pry open the door?
There is no shame that someone else has done it before!
This is the Open Source GPL3 - you can use and make a fork... -

Any idea when this essential feature will be available? An important reason why for now I do not switch to a paid plan and still use my primary mailprovider.

the ability to search emails by words included in the text of the body of the email

Once you get a decent amount of email stored in ProtonMail this feature starts to became an indispensable tool. Even an advanced front-end search engine would be a great improvement.

The search function still does not work. Entering a search for known rewords located in the body of the email still pulls up no results. Your search feature essentially does not work and needs to be fixed ASAP.

It's a showstopper for me and I suspect many other people. My suggestion would be this: have encryption on/off for different email addresses within an account. That way someone can send their sensitive messages from one mailbox, while still have a searchable mailbox that they can use for things like work. Because, it is simply not possible to use Proton as one's primary service without searchability, especially for work.
