5 years on from OP and still this feature isn't available...

This is an essential feature. I have migrated 10k+ mails from gmail and want to be able to reorganize them automatically through filters.

Yes, it would be great if this were possible. I didn't start using filters and labels until I had about 2000 emails to organize.

Using them together is incredibly powerful and useful, but I wish I could run the filters retroactively to label the messages I received before creating the filters and labels.

It would be great if one could apply [new] filters retroactively to existing mailbox or folder.

I am creating a new issue here because the original existing issue which is > 4 years old has not been addressed.

The original issue:

Please reconsider the priority of this issue, because there are hundreds of votes for this one basic feature.

Ability to set up a new filter, and then run it on all existing messages. This would help enormously to tidy up inboxes, move mail to new folders, labels etc.

Hi this is essential. I am migrating emails over from my old gmail and yahoo accounts and this is essential to sorting those old emails.

Each custom filter created should have an option to apply the filter to emails already received, read or unread (or both).

I also very much miss this feature.

It is very unusual not having this feature
