Please add a feature where messages in the trash and spam folders get automatically deleted after a certain period of time, like 30 days or 60 days, or even immediately.

Also please add a feature where you can select "All" items in the trash to delete, not just the 50 items on a page. This is frustrating, although I understand that sometimes one may need something in the trash to be placed back in the inbox.

I would prefer something more "immediate". Quite often one reads an email and instantly decides it's not one for keeps, and there should be an "instant delete" option, as in "wipe". I suggest Shift-Delete for this, similar to Windows. Hence, in any view, any folder, any messages selection, Shift click Delete-button would be "wipe". There may be an option in Settings to offer the user a final confirmation prompt or not.

Hi there, I'd love a very simple feature that I think could be a major improvement for many users....a way to automatically delete every mail in the trash and spam folder.
For example, An option that says: Do you want to automatically and definitely empty your trash and spam folder every week?

I would like to be able to have my trash folder automatically emptied, either upon exiting from Protonmail, or after a set period. Either one would be helpful.

Need option for placing the Trash Folder in order of deletion time and date. I have accidentally deleted items on my phone and have not been able to recover them through the Protonmail web version because I just couldn't find them. These items were sent to me many days to weeks ago. So a quick trash order selection within the "More" dropdown menu would be perfect. Place in order from new to old or latest deletion to oldest deletion. You wouldn't need to add a long-term "undo" button if you implemented this function.

Agree with @Enrico, allow for a certain amount of time before messages in the trash disappear (30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, never)

Yes, please add this feature. Emails in Trash auto delete afted a user specified time period. This saves us from having to delete it manually. Thanks!

I would love this option. It would keep me from emptying trash that I end up needing in a day or two but also maintain my storage space.

To be able to empty trash (even shred it and delete) would make the user interface much cleaner. One never knows whether or not to time-delay expiry of messages when they are composed and sent. A clean delete forever, in addition to being a comfort-feature, would help clean up clutter.

It would be a great benefit if any address placed in our SPAM list that they get in return a bounce message that the email is invalid/not on server. In time our email would be dropped.

a setting to immediately delete trash. essentially one has to "delete" everything twice which I find irritating. just empty the shit automatically. the cocksuckers at google and the nsa can keep their retarded spying files in perpetuity but I don't want the shit- just fucking delete it and be done w/ it says I.

I agree with Enrico also... would very much like to set a purge policy on any folder I create. It should be an option at Folder setup: set number of days aging permitted for this folder, after which mail older that this is automatically moved to the Trash folder.

Then on the Trash folder you could set a permanent delete policy.

Ideally, the purge policy should be based on the date the message enters a folder, not the calendarDate it arrived at ProtonMail.

Yes please. This would be highly beneficial to many users, especially those on lower PM tiers with lower storage space.

That would be a nice feature to have. And for better flexibility I think there is a reason to add exclusions for stared or moved to some specified folder mails, so user can stay sure that important mails will not be vanished.
