Independant Push Notification (GSF Independet)
After switching to Lineageos without a Google Playstore, I am unable to receive push notifications from protonmail, because it relies on the google service framework.
If you could keep an independent push notification functionality, like telegram foss or wechat, it's much appreciated.

I'm extremely disappointed and frustrate that it has been 5 years and we are still stuck with Google notifications. I don't need to hear again that "At this time, we utilize Google Play Services to implement the push notifications. We will try to find other ways to support push notifications in the future." The future was years ago. I think that we need to know that it's being implemented, or that it's not. We have waited long enough for such a basic feature.

Won't be paying for Proton as long as there exists this critical reliance on Google

And another issue open for over 5 years that prevents people from degoogling even though Proton so often advertises as an alternative to google - the irony is dead apparently.
Imagine being so against google but then requiring google play services for notifications to work... only with Proton.

This may happen one day, just waiting for it...

Not having this makes me question my subscription.

Kinda ironic how a privacy focused mail provider is relying on Google Play Services for notifications. I've switched to GrapheneOS and was sad to find out. Thought it might get released along with the new mobile apps that were published today, but no. Hopefully soon.

I fully switched to GrapheneOS and i changed all the privacy invasive apps for FOSS apps and privacy respecting services... Its a bit sad the fact that for use my pro-privacy Mail im forced to install Google Play services because Proton dont offer a single other notification method... Meanwhile my other apps like Molly (Signal FOSS Fork) does... please proton dont force me to use the google services...

I don't trust google. Tuta doesn't need google to work. I wish I had known this would be an issue before signing up with proton.

I'd like to emphasize the importance of having reliable push notifications and therefore fully support the original poster's request. Please implement push notifications for email without relying on Google Services. This is essential for those of us who prioritize privacy or use devices without Google integration.

Please implement this. I have Graphene and therefore don't have any idea of any potential emails, but more importantly, potential account takeover as I don't get a notification about a "successful login".

Hi. I really like how Proton let's me stay away from privacy-invasive services of Google. But the fact that I still have to use Google Play Services to receive e-mail notifications makes me very uncomfortable using Proton Mail app on Android. Please, implement WebSocket functionality, or better yet, proper Unified Push support. Element X already has this and I absolutely love it.

The #1, the "Proton: Privacy by default" company do not offer a privacy notification method. Flabbergasted.

I don't even understand how this isn't a thing yet.

This needs to be standard from Proton. Please implement this!

There are a few other ideas posted that support this suggestion. Does anyone review these and consolidate duplicates so that we can get a true measure of the demand for any given proposal? I am also looking to de-google with Graphene OS and a privacy-centric push notification method would be much appreciated.

I get notified by tuta and even signal (molly in my case) without google services in GrapheneOS.
Why is it so hard for a company like Proton to get this into the android app? -

Please make the change. All of the privacy conscious people who use custom android or linux ROMs have issues with the proton mail app. Push notifications are essential. For me maybe not that much actually, but there are definitely other people who need this!

Sure, not many votes but as privacy first it should be also on top of the list.
Unified Push works like a charm on Molly-FOSS
