Calendar app icon to display the current {day of week} and {day of month}
Background
The Proton Calendar app on iOS (and presumably Android )currently appears like a blueish/purple square with a small "31" in the bottom right corner. The "31" is static and doesn't change.
The official Apple Calendar app icon has the name of the day (e.g. "SAT") and the day of the month (e.g. "13") on the icon itself, making the app icon useful at a glance without even requiring the user to open the app.
Proposal:
It would be very cool and very useful if the "31" on the Proton Calendar app icon actually changed to represent the current day of the month. It would be even better if the Proton Calendar icon could be redesigned to show the same information as the Apple Calendar icon.
Conclusion:
As it currently stands, I need to keep the Apple Calendar icon on my iOS screen simply because it's useful, even if I intend to use the Proton Calendar app for my actual day-to-day work. This is a minor annoyance but it would be satisfying to finally be able to remove the Apple Calendar app from my iOS screen.

Contrary to what Privacy101 is stating, it is possible to display today's date on the IOS app. The icon itself does not change but the badge placement could be used to present different type of information.
Before switching to Proton Calendar, I was using Calendars by Readdle on my iPhone. The Calendars IOS app had no issue displaying today's date. I re-installed the Calendars IOS app just to confirm what I am typing in this post. The Readdle Calendars app has a "Badge" setting where you can select these items in Display Options -> Badge Icon
- No Badge
- All Events For Today
- All Tasks For Day
- All Events And Tasks For Day
- Current Day
- New Event Invitations
- Week NumberI used the "Current Day" to show today's date on the Calendars icon.
I now use Proton Calendars under the Proton DUO so that my wife and I can share Proton calendars. However, we both agree that Proton Calendar lags far behind Readdle Calendars in term of UI finesse and app features. Hopefully, Proton Calendar will mature with time and catch up with the leading calendar apps. -

Nathan, this is not possible because of iOS limitations. That is a specific workaround that Apple develops for their own apps like Calendar and Clock. Sorry.
