"Planned" for the last 7 years‽ I really do not think you know what that word means...

This is one of the main features keeping me tied to Google.

This feature would be huge, right now there is no other way to sync contacts on a phone without using google or another quite convoluted method. It would make proton very atractive to people with degoogled phones, as they wouldn't loose their contacts list if something were to happen to their phones.

Fully agree with pd0rl: this stops me from really moving over from Google to Proton. Contact synch is a must have. A formal statement from Proton would be very (very) appreciated.

Thousands of comments, 3717 votes, status "planned" since January 10, 2019, and no response from Proton. Proton, please make a statement on this issue and tell us what the current situation is.

I migrated from Google to Proton Unlimited today, but it seems I cannot use my contacts anymore on my phone... I still have to use Google's app for that.. :(

When is this planned to be released? The lack of this feature is almost a deal‑breaker for moving to Proton.

I have migrated from M365 to Proton. Due to this feature not being available I will need to look for an alternative product. I hope this feature becomes available in the near future.

Proton Mail without synced contacts that can be leveraged by the rest of the device makes the Mail app and a switch to Proton for my everyday use, a hard sell.

This forces me to retain my contacts in Google (to be leveraged by other apps on the device) as the 2-way/synced "source of truth" for all my devices and their apps, but do a regular manual sync/override of Proton contacts, and prevents any Contact update/management directly in Proton.

For years, I've had one single synced source of truth for my contacts, and now I've got to fiddle with a dysfunctional workaround.

I'm dying to move my setup of everything over to Proton and away from Google.

- I can live with "Notes" pending
- I can live with "Tasks" pending
- I can live with "Docs and Sheets" being shaky
- I can live with "Authenticator" not syncing to cloud - and keep using Google for Auth until it is

But Contacts is a major gap to close the loop for the Mail and Calendar workflow.

This has been "planned" for over 7 years now. I finally gave up on it and signed up for EteSync (end to end encrypted contact account that syncs with default Samsung contact app). It's a little bit wonky if you have more than one person using it... better to create a free guest account linked to yours for your significant other than to try to log into the same account on two devices, but it works well enough and I don't have to give my contacts over to Microsoft or Google. I wish Proton would follow up on this and push it out though. Big Tech companies having your entire contact list and all data therein is a pretty huge violation of privacy!

Really sad this is still planned after so many years and not prioritized.

this is a must have. I switchted to Proton and this makes me considering moving away again.

Just dropping by for my annual reminder about about what year it currently is and when you marked this feature as planned. It is not 2026. it has been 7 years since you've supposedly planned this feature. To put this into context, we didn't know what the word "covid" meant when you marked this as planned

Am I right: is this the 10 year anniversary for this requirement and is it planned since 2019 ?? It is still the obstacle to get rid of the google services !

PLEASE PRIORITISE THIS!
This function should be your higest and only priority right now.
Contacts are something you want to protect and you will not be able to swich to Proton without having that funtionality. It is as important as Calendar and email.

Postpone the Sheet development or something else until the bascic functionality is in place. Thanks!
