Contact Folders (separate from Groups)
Currently, Proton Mail allows creating Contact Groups, but these work like mailing lists: selecting the group sends an email to all members at once. That's useful for mass messaging, but it doesn't solve the need to simply organize contacts into categories.
Proposal:
Add the ability to create Contact Folders, where each contact inside the folder remains completely independent (selecting the folder does NOT send an email to everyone in it, it's purely for visual organization and easier searching)
Example use cases:
Family: Mom, Brother, Wife
University: University support, Classmates, Professors
Work: Boss, Team, Clients
Each contact remains independent, folders are only used for visual organization and categorization
Benefits:
A cleaner, more organized contact list, similar to how folders already work for emails
Doesn't replace Groups (which would still exist for mass messaging), but complements them
Makes it much easier to find contacts quickly once you have hundreds saved
Could potentially support subfolders or multiple tags per contact (a contact tagged both "Family" and "Emergency")
Personally, I really like being able to organize everything into folders, and I almost never use the contact search. I like to think I'm not the only one.
I hope you can review and consider this idea, since Proton Mail is now my main contact hub and I have a lot of contacts.
