"We plan on building a native desktop app in the future."
I hope it comes soon ^^. -

I vote for if the Proton mail client is fully integrated into the MacOS environment (compatibility with iCloud contacts and calendar at least) and that it allows us to create and manage subfolders.

Does this native desktop app will be able to create and manage subfolders ? (for MacOS & Windows) ?

Has there been any progress made on this? Specifically for Windows 10 as a UWP app?

Better support Thunderbird, Kmail, or one of the 300 already existing clients.

I have discovered the Protonmail Desktop (unofficial) application for Windows.
SENSATIONAL...! It is an important option that Protonmail lacks.
Would it be interesting for Prontonmail to officially incorporate it? -

Any update on when a native desktop app is coming? I would really like to see a Windows 10 UWP app (especially with Windows 10X coming soon)! Bridge is okay but native allows full features including the upcoming calendar and contacts.

It’s not about buying bridge. But people want a desktop client to avoid downloading messages to a 3rd party email clients which do not have accessibility security features. Anyone with access to your computer can open Apple’s Mail app.

Phones are cramped enough, and the UI for phone apps is very cramped and uncomfortable. A larger screen is needed, which is only accomplished by using a PC. Either make the phone app MUCH simpler to view and less cramped ( no more windows in windows in windows) or at least offer a desktop app that IS NOT merely a bridge or add-on for existing email clients.

The only reason a native ProtonMail app comes in handy is for those FREE accounts whose owners are unable to use BRIDGE. I haven't seem major issues with Bridge on macOS, however, my concern with expansion into too many areas is that ProtonMail as a company will not be able to concentrate its focus on security of its products and ultimately will produce vulnerable products.
I recommend that instead of developing yet another app native to macOS, winOS, linuxOS, ProtonMail should focus its development into greatly improving BRIDGE and making it available for both PAID and FREE accounts.
I personally don't want to give up mac mail, it's a great application and there is no reason to manage email into other non-os native apps. I think the BRIDGE is a good solution, but if people are facing issues with, then a focus should be paid to improve the solution.
I know people are going to ask for all types of "features", but most people are not technically savvy and don't understand the risk that comes with more and more unessential features. Remember, Google promotes its "spying" on our data through development of "features" that people like and use resulting in complete violation of our privacy for the sake of petty features.
ProtonMail should be more inclined to "reject" features if it will, in any way, reduce the security and increase the attack surface on ProtonMail / ProtonVPN.
I think ProtonMail should focus on essential solutions that IMPROVE security and privacy such as "Proton Drive/Cloud" that are end-to-end encrypted rather than "petty features" that drastically reduce the privacy and security of its solution. Ultimately, those of us who care about privacy and security elected to PAY premium price for ProtonMail/VPN for the sake of privacy and security. If ProtonMail continues to develop petty features demanded by people who don't understand the risk of doing so, then this will ultimately impact the security and ProtonMail's ability to provide a high level of Quality Assurance and secure solutions. If that happens, me and many others who give a damn about privacy and security will find ourselves LEAVING ProtonMail/VPN and finding someone who cares sole about those matters and will not succumb to the demand of people for more petty featues.

I would go further than that and request an entire private dark Proton encrypted OS!

having a proper protonmail desktop app without loosing the quality and security on linux coud be a good idea, i'll follow the idea of why not teaming up with thunderbird as i use it since years

I use the bridge and Thunderbird on my PC as the browser interface leaves a lot to be desired. But the Windows bridge with Thunderbird is SO SLOW! It drives me round the bend. I try deleting the bridge cache, restarting bridge and Thunderbird all of which sometimes work for a while. Then it starts to crawl again trying to sync up. It's ironic that the security that ProtonMail offers is the very thing that makes it a pain to use.
