Native email client is needed, because bridge is too slow (with Thunderbird). Currently I would not recommend bridge to any "normal user" who wants to see emails in seconds after email client is opened, because with bridge it may take minutes to see the message contents of new messages. It is frustrating to see email headers, but not message content immediately when you click the message.
