Desktop app (and sync other mailboxes)
A proton mail client protonmail that combine all the features and design from the proton web UI and allows the user to synchronise other mailboxes.

I think in order to gain more market share Proton Mail should be a fully packed native application for Mac (and Windows) where you can install multiple Proton accounts as well as accounts from Google, Apple and others. If so, I would say goodbye to Apple Mail which I have been using for 20 years now in a second.

Proton is my default email provider now however I do still have a Gmail and Outlook ID that I use regularly too. It would be great to be able to use the new Proton Mail desktop app as my default inbox for all my email accounts without needing to import my Gmail and Outlook via easy switch. So far importing them via easy switch has just caused problems and folder clashes.

Since Proton Bridge is supposed to tamper the emails content ( https://github.com/ProtonMail/proton-bridge/issues/26 ) and makes Thunderbird to use a lot of local disk space while using labels, I believe a ProtonMail app for Linux is extremely needed.

I would love a native app for Mac. I prefer to keep a copy of my emails saved on my computer, but don't love Thunderbird and have had some hiccups with the bridge (possibly my own user error, I admit), and would really appreciate an app that took the extra step away.

Even for newer Proton products a native app exists for Mac OS, so it feels strange that for the original product Proton Mail a native app for Mac OS still doesn't exist.

I feel like a much better use of Proton's resources would be to make improvements to Proton Bridge where needed, and make it more obvious to less-tech-savvy users that web apps are an option.
I could be wrong, but I would guess that many of the 3000+ votes in support of this feature would be perfectly content with a progressive web app, which Proton Mail, Calendar, and Drive already support, it just isn't obvious to the less tech-savvy user. All Proton needs to do to rectify this is add a button to the web client itself that says "Install to desktop" and call it a day.
There are definitely some things that a true desktop app would be great for, but with excellent web app support already in place, and Proton Bridge as an option, the added value of a desktop app, in my opinion, would not be worth the cost to develop at this point. I'd rather see Proton focus on getting their current offerings caught up in functionality with competing products.

I have upvoted this one! Good idea.
Can we also think about asking Proton for long-term paid plans instead of the short 24 months one. I have created a petition under this header:
LONG TERM Plans - LIFETIME Plans !!!

A native desktop client (also Mac) would be important. If necessary an Electron app is better than nothing…

I find the bridge unreliable on my windows 10 PC. I frequently have to delete and re add the account to get my emails. Many times I get multiple copies of the same email, other times the new emails don't arrive. I've pretty much given up on the bridge and use the web. I would certainly prefer a desktop app. Hopefully I could integrate my other emails into the proton app.

Bridge doesn't work seamlessly for me. I'd love to see a centralized desktop app!

For those who regularly clear their browser cache and use 2FA an app (such as a PWA) which allows you to stay logged in while clearing cache is very useful. As well, you can integrate security with biometric login (like on the phones).

Would like to see the proton iPad mail app to be allowed to run on the M1 MAC.

I would be totally for this since it's not a big move to make the iOS app into a Mac desktop app with little development.

I have stopped using ProtonBridge for now because with Windows 11, it often requires me to log back into it.
We really need a true ProtonMail desktop application for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Like a better version of Outlook made by ProtonMail that integrates both email and calendar into one easy to use application!

I beg to differ. I feel they should have a better integration with GNOME and KDE.

Here’s how to convert website to app with Automator:
Launch Automator from the Applications folder
Click New Document ➙ Workflow
Navigate to Internet ➙ Get Specified URLs
Replace the address with the URL you want to make an app out of
Add the Website Popup action and customize its settings for your new app -

I disagree. I'd rather have the Proton devs sped their time on the security and services and not re-inventing another email client. The bridge, like anything else in life, has a bit of a learning curve and works quite well with Thunderbird.
It would be interesting to have the bridge integrated into one of the many fine email clients, in the way Enigmail plugin was and now OpenPGP is integrated into Thunderbird.
