Read receipt / confirmation
Would It is possible to know if the recipient open or read the mail? as https://www.mailbutler.io/en/ or https://mailtrack.io/en/
That would be great!
Thanks

You should definitely add a read receipt feature for proton mail users with the ability to reject an incoming read receipt or send back

If i send a time-sensitive tax form to a client via an encrypted email, I want to know if they received it. The encryption service I use now allows me to select "Request a Receipt" before I send the encrypted email. When the client opens the encrypted email I get a "Receipt" email showing the time they opened the email I sent.

From my perspective, I believe that such a feature compromises privacy.

Hi,its very good initiative to have fully encrypted mail box.You are having many new features, why cant you introduce other feature that sender should know whether his mail is read or not?????.
This gives sender a idea what about his mail ,whether it is going to address his need or not.

Here's another perspective. If one places a call and someone answers the phone, you know they answered it - the phone stops ringing. If they don't want to answer it, they don't. Read receipt is merely the acknowledgement that someone has viewed the email, like someone answering a phone. There's no privacy issue here. A read receipt doesn't mean that they actually read the email, understood it, agree to it, etc. Perhaps instead of implementing a "read receipt" one can implement a view receipt?

Show if an encrypted mail has been read (decrypted).
Only for external users. For internal can be in form of : "inform sender about read" button.Especially great if you send with expiration flag. So you can see if it was read - delivered. Suggest to store in system without any other info - only yes/no. Without IP, date, time only flag to minimize exposure surface.

Adds the option for a delivery report and read report so you can see if the email has arrived and been opened by the recipients without any problems.

No to "non-optional".

I'd like to be able to have a read receipt on encrypted email sent to external users. I'd prefer it to be non-optional.

Notify the sender when the recipient has opened the message. In the notification message there could be such details like date and time, duration, location of the recipient (based in the ISP).

Read Receipt in certain cases don't compromise privacy:
for example when i send a encrypted email to outside users with an expiration-time
->they get a link to click
-> and you guys from protonmail know then anyway if & when he clickt that link.
so that would be a nice feature to be implemented in the "encrypt for outside users"
just so the sender knows if the reciever clicked the link.. -

For copies of outgoing self-expiring encrypted e-mails that are in the sender's SENT folder, it would be useful to have a "READ" flag in the e-mail which will allow the sender of the encrypted e-mail to determine if the recipient has successfully decrypted and opened the e-mail at least once. This flag could be visible in the e-mail header pane of Proton Mail web mail so that the sender could check at a glance which encrypted e-mail has been opened / decrypted successfully, by simply glancing at the e-mail header pane of PM web mail.

Ditto on what Tom and Trevor said. Very simple solution is to let each user decide via their Settings. When receiving email read receipts should be: 1) automatically sent, 2) ask before sending or 3) never sent. ... Privacy is still "provided" by ProtonMail and any "comprise" is the user's choice.
And while on the topic, allow sender to also have similar option in their Settings. When sending an email: 1) Always request a read receipt, 2) Do no request a read receipt. In addition, allow sender to have ability to override this setting with each email sent.

Security is all well & good but why not allow the user to decide.

The receiver could choose if they want to send the read receipt.

F,
Read Receipt will notify you when the recipient has opened your email. I do not know which other email services provide that, but I am sure there are a couple. Typically, one would use a third-party tool to get a Read Receipt.
