Block sender
It would be great to be able to block certain email addresses from being able to send you emails. Not just a filter to go to “spam” but being able to actually block the sender totally

I got a response from Proton support basically saying that they already have the ability to implement this but are afraid users will accidentally block addresses. OK, so allow it to be undone just as easily (again this is a common feature with all my previous email accounts). You Cern guys should know that nothing is idiot proof. As Dumas observed, "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genious has limits".

In regards to your sieve filter as the spam solution...This is ridiculously complicated and completely unnecessary. Every other email provider I have ever used is able to permanently block any sender with a simple right click. Unwanted emails don't go to the spam folder, they just are automatically deleted from the server without ever having to see them. Accidentally blocked addresses can simply be removed from the blacklist and will be seen normally again. This is the 100% must-have feature that needs to be implemented by the time my account comes due for renewal, or I refuse to pay until it is added. Another huge annoyance is having to log back into protonmail each and every time I try to go to help or the discussions. This comment was originally meant to be posted under the link below, but I can't stay logged in to post it. Overall I am extremely pleased with the service and security offered and more than happy to pay for it rather than trading my personal information. It really doesn't seem like too much to ask for things to be as simple and straightforward as possible.

Add another vote to the pile. It shouldn't be more than a ten minute job, come on.

So yeah, is this going to be a thing? As others are saying, it's a simple yet important component of an email service. I have someone I cut off contact with and want to block their email addresses to the fullest extent, not just have it go to the spam filter. I still might see it and it might be triggering for me. People can laugh at this comment if they want but it's a reality that many people face--they really don't even want to see that a certain person (or company) is emailing them. Please make this an option in ProtonMail!

Good morning. Congratulations on the excellent work you are doing!
I wanted to suggest an very useful improvement: I have 2 other emails with other mail managers (Libero.it, Hotmail.it), which have the possibility to activate "block emails" for the disturbing senders. This option does not just mark it as spam, it does not move to trash, or similar actions, but it does a superlative thing, that is, it really blocks! So that the sender no longer arrives in my email box. It is blocked upstream. The sender thus sees the delivery refused, which immediately returns to him, and stops it. In this way, there are no more hundreds of spam emails accumulating in the spam folder! Because these managers rightfully say that, when I have a domain that is assigned to me, regardless of whether I pay or not, it becomes my domain to all intents and purposes of law, as if it were my home, so I'm the one who that can rightly choose who to enter and who does not.
It would be excellent if you could put this very useful improvement.
Thank you very much.
My best regards. -

Tutanota another e-mail provider has this option already, they set it up to where people can input the e-mail and decide where that e-mail address always goes, and people don't have to deal with them.

Back when I was a Mac user, Apple Mail had a really handy bounce button, which would bounce unwanted emails and make your address look invalid, thus unattractive to spammers, bots, etc. I would think that a bounce function/button would be (hopefully) pretty easy to implement and very useful in deterring spam.

This feature is a very must! I don't want to receive tons of email in my Spam folder every day, which I need to manually delete. Just add option to block sender email or whole domain. If blocked sender should receive a hard bounce and that mail should never come to my mailbox, even in Spam folder.
Thanks

I have this annoying friend who all day spends hours upon hours sending me article after article, I am fed up now so a block sender would be great. By the way, currently I have 803 emails from this person.

I agree that this would be a very useful feature that I would like to have. I expected it would be included as a given. This morning I wanted to block a contact and could not find a way to do it and in searching found this thread. So, still a desired feature and hope it will be added soon.
Protonmail is a great service and I am glad to have it. Keep up the great work :)

This option already exists, using Sieve filters.
See the "reject" example on this support page:

Create an "Auto Purge" feature so that email addresses (example@example.com) or domain names (example.com) are immediately purged - all emails from those email addresses or domains are never seen (bypass Trash).

The most important button on a machine in a work place is EMERGENCY STOP not the start button On some machines they even have several buttons that can be reached from different positions or areas.. Its also a bit like a car,, more experienced driver want to know "how quick does it stop" whilst the young and reckless wanna know "how fast does it go??}
Having the worlds most secure mailer is no good if U cant keep out people that are attacking your machine via trojans in jpegs .. that come straight thru the front door
Maybe there is a block sender but if there is its too well hidden

Yes, I may have to look for another email provider due to the lack of blocking spam.
