An option to block a sender from being able to send you mail
It would be great to be able to block certain email addresses from being able to send you emails. Not just a filter to go to “spam” but being able to actually block the sender totally

I want to block someone, not a spam address. I'm really tired of being bothered by them. I want them to receive an email every time they contact me that tells them, "You've been blocked" so they stop bothering me

Essential. Spam comes up in 'All Mail', fair enough. But there are domains I don't want ever to hear from. So send to blacklist immediately. Essential!!

Yes, a pet peeve of any mail delivery service, even old fashioned USPS is the inability of the intended receiver to approve or deny delivery. True privacy also means preventing someone from contacting you.

I found that the best way is to go into filters within your settings. You can set specific emails to go straight into trash. I also made sure to check off that the email address are "Automatically read" so it technically just disappears! I know it's annoying that the emails will still be in your trash but atleast they aren't in the spam folder- which I would check frequently as sometimes important e-mails end up there. I never check my trash folder. I hope Protonmail comes out with an actual block feature sooner than later... not sure why it isn't an option.

To block fully concrete email adress - not only move to spam. Don't allow to the concrete email adress write you a email.

Also if a certain number of different Proton users (say 3 or 5) mark any sender as Spam, that it is universally blocked, so that all of us are protected from that sender. In this way we will weed out a lot of spam for all users.

For now, you can use contact groups & a sieve filter to replicate such a feature:
1. Go to the contacts page (https://mail.protonmail.com/contacts) and create a group called "Blocked".
2. Add any contacts/addresses you want to block to the group.
3. Go to Settings -> Filters (https://mail.protonmail.com/filters)
4. Click on "Add Sieve Filter", right next to the Add Filter button.
5. Paste the following code snippet to the pop-up:require ["envelope", "extlists"];
if envelope :list "From" ":addrbook:personal?label=blocked"
{
discard;
}This snippet discards (deletes) mails coming from contacts that are in the "Blocked" group.
6. Click on the "Save" button.
You can learn more about Sieve filters here: https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/sieve-advanced-custom-filters/

Please....a BOUNCE BUTTON. I upgraded to plus but cannot make head nor tail of Sieve instructions. I need to block certain people...they are now blacklisted, so will go into spam, but seeing as I have to delete spam folder, I will know that they are still trying to hound me.
This has been asked for many, many times and over a long period of time.Please....tell me why this is not a feature?

Tutanota.com has this feature, where people can type a address and decide what to do with it.

This is a very important feature any email account should have implemented. I can't keep my premium account if this feature will not be added in the future. Protonmail is a great service and I have recommended it to all my friends.

Have a feature to block spam (i.e. return error message to sender as if address doesn't even exist), as opposed to blacklisting it to spam folder.
