favicon mail counter
On Gmail, I'm using a mail counter in the favicon so I can see I have mail. I don't like the browser notification popup.

I think this issue was never updated, but this feature has been implemented.
When you open all settings, under Proton Mail > Messages and composing > Other preferences, enable "Show unread count in Favicon".
Works like a charm.

Until this is officially implemented, I've created a Tampermonkey script for this: https://gist.github.com/kevinleedrum/d7e261c9d9b0b3281dcc75c16d69f143

Gmail has a nice optional feature where it displays the number of unread emails over the right bottom half of the favicon, it is super useful and would be great to have for Protonmail.

I also pin the pm tab in my browser. An unread counter/badge in the favicon would be great!

One more thing: Although the title of the ProtonMail tab does change when you have new messages, that doesn't help if you have ProtonMail open in a pinned tab, since pinned tabs only show the favicon.

Agreed – I find notifications intrusive, but I'd like to be able to see at a glance whether I have new mail waiting when I am working in the browser. And for me, at least, it doesn't have to be a counter; a simple badge (e.g. a red dot in the corner of the favicon) would be fine.
