Possibility to add more folders
I understand that you're not getting money by selling our data but Proton basic plan is so poor. For example, we can only add 3 folders. I wanted to switch from Gmail to Protonmail but even that is blocking me from doing so. I think, over time, when you add new features, some old features which were paid should come free to get more user base.

I am already paying for the lowest tier service, which I'm perfectly happy to support a privacy service, but have not found a reason to upgrade to a higher tier except for a need of more organization in labels/folders. This is important enough for me that I'm leaving this service for another one, due to the jump in price simply for more folders/labels. I need appx 10 for good email management, so three is certainly not enough. I hope this changes for the benefit of users in the future.

yes, this is a very old post, but i have to 2nd this suggestion. only allowing 3 folders to categorize emails is deliberately making the basic account useable. if the basic account included 10 folders, i would probably migrate all my email to proton and start making it my primary email, and i would probably donate to proton out of appreciation for providing the free service i could use. if it included more folders and imap/smtp, i'd probably pay a modest annual fee. either way, proton is running off most of its potential users by offering an unuseable email account or a useable account that demands monthly fees in perpetuity

My intention is to bring to light my experience with protonMail in the past few days and offer my candid feedback.
In truth I am a little let down with the features offered for basic proton email accounts. While organizing emails, I have quickly reached the limit of 3 folders. This alone has discouraged me from continuing use of ProtonMail services. This seems like an overly aggressive strategy, one which gives the impression of being 'herded towards a paid account'. I understand how server storage space is justifiable as a cost, but surely creating a bunch folders would not impact the storage space limit in any significant way. Another reason for concern, and a deciding factor, for many I am sure, is the inability to use the proton bridge with basic accounts. The ability to amalgamate and synchronize various email accounts into a single email client is a critical feature. Hence the basic 'free' account has rendered itself inadequate for regular use. I would also like to share my opinion regarding the pricing options. In a global perspective, for some countries, the pricing/charges equate(s) to a substantial amount. I feel this could be improved with more flexibility to cater to a broader audience of various needs and usage.
I admire the efforts made by protonMail and look forward to its growth and success.
In appreciation of your services and efforts,
Sincerely,
Sameer Ali
