Support UnifiedPush for android notifications
I don't have google services on my phone and having every app permanently connected checking for new messages is detrimental to battery life. UnifiedPush is the open alternative to Google Cloud Messaging: https://unifiedpush.org

Lack of UnifiedPush makes the android app dramatically less useful since you might as well just wait until you are next at a desktop computer to use email if nothing is important enough to require notifications.
Using a polling system would be a decent fallback if Google Cloud Services (Firebase) is not available, but even better would be UnifiedPush.

As GrapheneOS becomes more and more popular with the other alternative phone OS's, I think it's really critical to do this. Proton saying so many things against Google and the big tech companies, but still using their notification services is not a good look.

I think Proton not only should support UnifiedPush on Android, but they should also be a push notification distributor for other apps supporting it.
The less relying on Google, the better.

Proton push notifications are the only remaining reason to keep Google Play services on my device. Cutting that tether would be a relief.

I would really appreciate it if this could be implemented. I hate the fact that Google Cloud Messaging is the dominant notification solution for developers. Please implement UnifiedPush!!
