Minimize desktop app to system tray
Ability to minimize Proton Mail Desktop app to the system tray (notification area) to keep it from taking up space on the taskbar.
Icon in notification should show unread message count.

Any updates on this? This is a basic expectations for any Windows application.

Please do it, without it it's really hard to work and receive mail

I spent so long looking for this option in the client because I could not believe that it wouldn't have such a fundamental feature...

The option to minimize to tray on close would be amazing.

+1 for this on Linux.
Also an option to store credentials.
Everytime...
Ask me for 2FA after some time or on startup or whatever, but don't let me open my Pw Manager and copy paste my password... please!
(I know, this is not asked here, but a closed app + the credential issue = super annoying) -

Linux user.
Minimize to tray would be the only reason to prefer the app over the web version. -

Systray behavor (minimize on systray, close on systray, ...)
Launch at system startup
Nofification on taskbar icon (like discord)
Windows Notifications on/off (I don't like that but I guess others can use it) -

I was honestly shocked that this feature wasn't included on release. I thought this was one of the major benefits of having a desktop app in the first place. I keep a lot of things open throughout the day; being able to reduce some taskbar clutter would be fantastic.

Minimize to tray is absolutely needed for Windows users, along with start with system startup.

Auto start application, minimize to tray options (on close, on minimize), auto start application to tray. These are all the required features I need before switching from the Electron Mail client.

Adding my votes for the Linux version!

This would be super ****. The desktop app feels more like a webapp rather than a full fledged desktop application. Ability to minimize to systray would help improve that feeling.

Please add this feature to make it similar to Proton VPN. By keeping things hidden in the system tray and enabeling autostart and notification + notification counter make for a clean experience.

No reason to use the desktop app without this. And without an extension like Checker Plus for Gmail. Not a very usable mail system.

This is applicable to the Linux version as well. ProtonVPN's Linux client will (if an additional, small app is installed, since GNOME doesn't support this by default) stay in the top bar and free up space in my dock. It would be nice for this to be standard functionality across all Proton applications in Linux.

Right now there is literally no reason to use the desktop app, it's just an Electron wrapper around the web interface. Meanwhile, look at what ElectronMail has done, it's a complete overhaul of the interface plus all the features you need. The least they could do is make it minimized to the tray and automatically startup.
