Quoting options: Bottom, top, quote character
There aren't any quoting options for the compose editor yet. It just does arguably the worst thing, top-quoting while indenting any previous message(s).
Options that would be nice are:
- Which quote character to use (default >)
- Where to quote original messages (top or bottom)

Bottom quoting went dead like 30 years ago when AOL opened to Internet. Young netiquette fanatics resisted, but that is just because they got their dogma from netiquette guides and were not present in the early days and didn't understand that bottom quoting implied editing quoted text and replying to each paragraph separately - nobody does such for decades.
What is needed now is nothing quoted unless you click a button to quote. Just like any text messenger, an email client should be able construct clear threads instead of multiplying meaningless old garbage in every single message and totally confusing new users, especially on smaller screens.
Right now ProtonMail web editor doesn't even allow to split quoted text in parts as far as I have tried, unlike gmail's one. -

Release 5.0.11.0 (October 26, 2022) — when writing a response, a blank email with a signature appears, and the text of the original email is not available. Is this a beta experiment? If so, I'd like to disable this feature (not include the text of the original email in the reply).

The quoting overall is egregious! Need to be able to unquote pasted text as well.

This. Please.
"I just wish to add that the option to choose ">" as the quoting character for plain text replies should be available in the iOS app as well. I really hope you implement this soon!!"

Indeed. When I reply to an email, ProtonMail will include a quoted version of the message I'm replying to beneath the text of my reply. This leads to long email threads containing the entire history of the discussion in an increasingly long and nested footer on every email.
A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation.
Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -

Considering that ProtonMail has been created by researchers and geek-like people, one of the first things I checked is if I could configure quoting with the ">" character (mandatory for proper netiquette in mailing lists), so this is the only "disappointment" I've found with ProtonMail (which is great otherwise).
Anyway, I've seen that plain text has been a recently added feature, and obviously quoting with ">" makes no sense if you are not composing in plain text. So, pleaaaaase!! Add this feature, I really need it for mailing lists!!

Don't forget to add this to the mobile clients as well. I had to reply to an email via a browser as it was impossible to bottom post in the mobile client.

Yes, please. It shouldn't be that awkward to reply respecting the netiquette.

Reply at the bottom is necessary.

Its highly required avoid top-post, protonmail must educate users to avoid it, at least give us the option.

The 'Paste as quotation...' context menu / email editor button wouldn't hurt also.

Completely agree. And bottom quoting should be the default. And don't quote the whole e-mail, just the part that I mark.

A quote button in the e-mail toolbar would also be very useful.

Please add a button to the email toolbar to increase quote level when writing an email. Currently there is a decrease quote level button, but for me this is useless because I can't ever have an "increased level" to decrease. The tab button doesn't work, obviously, because it shouldn't, but copying increased quote level text and pasting it into the email removes the quote level on paste.
Right now, I have to indicate quotes using >> at the top of each line, which is quite laborious.
