[MacOS] Change desktop app icon color to indicate connection status
The proton VPN app icon currently shows the connection status by showing a tiny cross sign or a tick, which is hardly noticeable when you have a high-resolution monitor. Changing the icon colour will make it much better. This can even be an option for the user to select the icon they would like to see when the connection is established or disconnected.

Prior to VPN v4 the system tray icon would flash indicating it was attempting to connect to a server. v4 doesn't appear to do this.
When working with a mobile device powered by battery and offline, if previously connected, Proton VPN will try to restablish a VPN server connection and cannot. This uses more battery resource than being in the disconnected state and not attempting to connect.
The system tray icon currently has two options. Connected and disconnected.
Please can you restore the third option of flashing for 'attempting to connect'.

Or bring back the check mark on the taskbar icon, which disappeared with yesterday's Proton VPN update (Windows11). Either way I need a quick visual indicator that the Proton VPN is connected.

On my Mac the icon in the menubar still has the checkmark, but it is very small and hard to see. In the Linux app (Proton VPN) the taskbar icon changes color when connected, which is immediately apparent and easy to see.

I have recently changed from PIA to ProtonVPN. PIA has a menu bar (or tray) icon that is red when disconnected, and green when connected. This is easy and quick to check on. The ProtonVPN icon is black and white and has a tiny tick or cross to show connection status. This is very hard to see, and I often have to use reading glasses or click on the icon to check if connected. It would be an easy change to make and would make life easier for your users.

The most recent VPN update removed the connection status checkmark for the taskbar icon, it should be brought back

change the icon color in Mac toolbar.
green for connected
red for disconnected
yellow if no Internet connection or while it's searching and trying to connect. -

One thing that drives me crazy with Proton VPN is trying to see if I am connected or not, having to look at a very small icon in the menu and determining if there is a checkmark in that little circle. I have a very large monitor and the icon in the top menu is about a quarter of an inch in size, if that. A great solution for those of us with large screens is to change the color of the icon circle to RED when not connected and GREEN when connected. I have other app menu icons that do similar actions. Please consider this new option :-).

on the macos dock the icon has 2 colour status; illuminated when connected, greyed when disconnected (from vpn).
when the app is completely closed the dock icon looks the same as the illuminated state suggesting the vpn may be active.
could we rethink the colours so that when the app is closed it matches the icons disconnected status.
ie
app closed / disconnected = vpn off [grey]
app open / disconnected = vpn off [grey]
app open / vpn connected = vpn on [illuminated]
... or something along those lines
