2. VLAN/Lan access

   It should be possible to define routes which are not routed over the VPN. So currently my wifi devices are in a dedicated vlan, if I try to connect to a different vlan then with VPN on, its not possible.

3. Kill switch should stay on with split tunneling

   I use Proton VPN at the router level, so my home Wi-Fi is already protected. On my laptop, I’d like to exclude my home network from the VPN using split tunneling without disabling the kill switch.

   Right now, having both the router VPN and the laptop VPN running creates a double VPN, which slows down all internet traffic while I’m at home. If split tunneling worked with the kill switch enabled, I could use my home network normally without the slowdown, and when I leave home and connect to any other network, the kill switch would still protect me—no manual toggling needed.

4. Split tunneling with hostnames

   In the current tech landscape, the same website can be served through thousands of distinct IPs, changing over time depending on specific criteria or even between deployments. It is humanly exhausting, and frankly unfeasible, to require that we have knowledge of IPs or IP ranges to exclude a specific site from VPN usage.

   I firmly believe that it is possible to implement the ability to provide access through hostnames (to enable any level of subdomain as well) without the need for a Herculean effort, even if it is necessary to require the user to use a specific DNS service.

   This is a relevant issue, and it cannot be resolved solely through browser extensions, as the use of hostnames goes far beyond web browsing. It is important to remember that VPN traffic also involves the use of terminals and other local applications, and, in the current approach, it is completely unfeasible to enjoy the use of the resource appropriately.

   Apparently ProtonVPN has implemented this feature in Windows:

   - Users can now use Split Tunneling, Kill Switch, and NetShield altogether
   - Split tunneling is currently in beta for Mac and Linux users

   If you’ve been using Proton VPN on Windows, you’ve likely encountered a frustrating "pick two" scenario. For a long time, the app forced users to make a compromise: if you wanted to use split tunneling to route specific apps outside the VPN, you often had to disable other critical security features.

   According to an X post by the company, that friction is finally gone. Proton has just rolled out an update for its Windows application that allows users to enable Split Tunneling, the Kill Switch, and NetShield simultaneously.

   "Proton VPN's latest update on Windows lets you benefit from all three at once, so you can feel relieved while you browse the internet securely," the company tweeted.

   If this is available in Windows; why not available in Mac OS?

6. Improve region selection for high-population nations

   The current region selection system for Proton VPN really only works well for low- and mid-population nations, and is highly problematic for many regions of high-population nations. As an example, I can choose the UK, and then select from a list of the six cities in which you provide local presence. This is great. If I want to pop out in London, as opposed to Cardiff, I can. However, in California, U.S., this doesn’t work. Your system cannot iterate down further than one step (nation > city), where there are many places where you might want to go two steps (nation > region > city). As I noted, California is a perfect example of this. It is possible to choose U.S. > California, but not U.S. > California > Los Angeles. Population-wise, it's not far off declaring the U.K. a single endpoint, with no possibility of choosing any of the six cities that are currently supported. In a state as large and populous as California (and there are probably half a dozen other states like it in the U.S.), selecting indiviual cities is important. And I suspect that there are or will soon be other high-population nations with the same problem.

   Please offer a better solution. I don’t care whether it’s providing another layer of depth, with a sub-sub-menu for cities within the state sub-menu, or simply listing every “city” in the U.S. as a sub-menu under the entry for the U.S. But don’t leave it as-is. It sucks, and your competitors offer better selection tools.

7. World map pin on desktop app to show VPN location.

   On iOS app, when you choose a VPN location, the world map pin moves to that location. It would be nice to have this same behavior on the desktop app (Windows). Right now, the map pin is always in the the center of the country. For example, US shows map pin always in state of Nebraska.

8. Upgraded VPN for Mail Plus Subscribers

   I have been a Proton Mail Plus subscriber since 2021. As such I'm entitled to use the free version of Proton VPN. I just learned, however, non-mail subscribers can download and set up the same exact free VPN. To be clear, it appears they pay nothing for this. Seems unfair to paid mail subscribers. I would suggest providing an upgraded VPN with more features for Mail Plus subscribers; something short of VPN Plus. After all, there should be some benefit to being a paid mail customer versus a non-paying, non-customer. I recently cancelled my Express VPN subscription so I could switch to Proton VPN. This issue has caused a bit of disappointment. I respectfully request this matter be considered by the decision makers. Thank you for the forum.

   We suggest considering Xray-core as an alternative to current VPN protocols. Due to the expanding list of countries using internet censorship. Xray, as a successor to V2Ray, promises significant improvements: higher performance due to an optimized core, support for modern protocols (VLESS, Trojan) and advanced traffic obfuscation (XTLS), which is critical for bypassing DPI and ensuring reliable access.

10. Netshield improvements on all platforms

    Netshield works well for the most part but it does not block as many ad networks as I would have anticipated. Some mobile games still show ads when being played while Netshield is enabled. I understand the usability aspect of things need to work, it would be beneficial to offer different levels of blocking so we could adjust the service to or liking or standards. This could be done by offering different levels like standard, advanced, adult, family or custom block lists that are supported through the app.

12. SSO (single sign on) for Unlimited Accounts

    It's unfortunate having to sign into the VPN with your username and password for the VPN - for some of my devices I'm using Windows or Android, where I don't consider the operating system secure.

    Users should have the ability to sign into Proton VPN with single sign on from a trusted device.

    For instance, I'm using Linux and GrapheneOS for relatively secure environments, but I'd still like to be able to sign into Proton VPN on Windows, for instance, without having to type in my entire email and password - Windows itself has been proven to track what you're typing. Using MFA for Proton helps mitigate the risk of this but it's unfortunate to have to rely on this

13. Android Widget & Notification UI update for Tor servers

    When you go to the 'Countries' tab on Android you can select from "All, Secure Core, P2P & Tor" options. If you select Tor, one of the options is "Fastest Country." When you connect to that, there is no indication that you're connected to a Tor server unless you either open the app or manually check your IP address.

    If you use the widget on the home screen there is nothing differentiating a regular "Fastest Country" over "Fastest Country via Tor" either in the widget or the persistent notification. In regards to the widget, both use the same lightning icon. You could add text below it to indicate which one is the Tor connection. The UI doesn't make it obvious, you need to open the app which in my opinion, defeats the purpose of the widget. You could also change it to show the onion logo like when selecting a country in the first place.

    In regards to the persistent notification, a "Connected to (Country) via Tor" would be appreciated as well.

    I know it's not as critical as other suggestions, but it would certainly be a welcomes QoL update. Thank you.

14. Improve error message when trying to connect to a VPN without NetworkManager.service

    I am using Omarchy and when I installed the proton-vpn-gtk-app package and tried connecting, it displayed the generic error message "Something went wrong | An unexpected error has occured". I had to check the logs to figure out that the reason why it was failing was that the NetworkManager.service daemon was not running, because Omarchy uses systemd-networkd. Unless there's a skill issue on my end, I would like to suggest displaying a more clear error message when that happens, so the users quickly know to switch to NetworkManager if they need to use Proton VPN.

15. Correct Panama Servers IP Ranges Problem

    My best wishes for you.

    Recently you launched Panama Servers through of a suggestion that I send you. Now It's working wrong, because when I connect my devices in that servers, the IP address is from USA (usually from Los Angeles) instead Panama, and when I'm using my Panamanian apps automatically is detected that problem and it's impossible to use them.

    Usually the IP address range that I can see when I use Panama server is like 51.179.177.21

    Please help me with this problem to change to correct Panamanian IP Ranges, cause is so difficult to see some contents from my country, play some games and working as well.

16. Better support for GNOME's "Background Apps" feature

    Not every Linux desktop environment comes out with support for tray icons, the most infamous one for that being GNOME, one of the most popular desktop environments. Since GNOME 44, it focuses on a "Background apps" feature, which uses xdg-desktop-portal to find apps running in the background, with the ability to show them.

    Personally, I must say I like that feature, and would like to avoid installing extensions adding back the tray. At the same time, I'd love it if the Proton VPN was able to start minimized on login in my prefered DE, especially since it's possible for other applications (such as Geary, for example).

18. Fix Free Tier Country List: Linux/Config file Shows 10, GUI Apps Display Only 5

    This request addresses an inconsistency across ProtonVPN platforms regarding the number of countries available on the Free plan.

    Currently:

    Linux GUI, CLI, and manual configuration files (OpenVPN/WireGuard) correctly expose 10 free countries, matching what the backend actually provides.

    Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and tvOS apps display only 5 countries in their GUI, even though random connecting to all 10 is possible via backend/API.

    This creates a confusing discrepancy for users and contradicts the behavior of Linux clients and manual configs.

    Proton and web pages also show mixed information (some mention 5, others implicitly reflect 10), further adding to user confusion.

19. A full account can be deleted in a Proton app, dangerous idea

    A full account can be deleted in a Proton app, since there is in the app "settings/account/delete account" ?
    I find it very risky that this account delete option is available there. Not everyone is sufficiently technically savvy and an accident happened quickly. Especially because I personal have 10 installations of the VPN app which I would like to share with my family members. In addition, I would like to be sure that there is no unfortunate deletion.

    And even more when 2FA is activated, in addition to the password, the 2FA code doesn't even need to be entered for a full DELETE, how crazy is that.

    So please remove the account delete option in apps or ensure that when 2FA is enabled, 2FA is definitely required for the account delete action.

20. Adding an application name instead of the app's location for split tunneling

    give us the option to add the executable name instead adding the file location, some applications after they recieve an update the change the path to the exe file and with the current method i have to go back to protonvpn and add the application back to the list every time, if there was a way to for example tell proton to tunnel the app named "discord.exe" through vpn then after the app receives an update and changes the path i still can use the app with vpn without going through the process of adding it again
