I still get locked out by companies that refuse to allow your serves to be my link to their pages.
There needs to be a serious 'Public Information campaign' to let the general public know that VPNs are not only for the corrupt or other bad people but also for the common man's protection.

Using stealth protocol instead of alternating routing for desktop app VPN log in
In some countries proton services are blocked and alternative rounting is not helping to log into your proton accout. This forces you to install other VPN apps to get inside proton vpn desktop. Using stealth feature would allow to log into your account even in countries where alternative routing is useless

Add a 'connecting' icon to the tray
Please add a new icon to the tray for the 'connecting/establishing connection' status.
Currently protonVPN flickers between the red disconected icon and green connected icon to indicate that a connection is being established.
This means you have to wait to see if the icon stops flickering back and forth because seeing the green tick isn't a confirmation that you are connected.
A third yellow icon to show that the VPN is searching for a connection but you are not secure yet would improve the user experience.

Select country that you don't live in when activating free vpn.
Currently while using the free vpn protonvpn automatically connects to the closest server. This is a problem however when you are simply trying to bypass a region lock. Please allow free vpn users to connect to the second fastest server if the fastest connection is in their home country.

choice is a critical safegaurd to privacy.
One never knows what laws or policies might change at any time, hence choice is the vpn users only true assurance of safety, privacy, etc. Not providing a choice at all levels renders vpn's function sorely lacking...... Why? I had heard such good things, but now this

Headless CLI
There is little reason why the CLI is not able to run in a headless setup and needs authentication via UI.
Seems easy to implement and I seem to remember that this once worked?15 votes -

Being able to select the city along with the State/Department/Province
May 28th, 24. I like the new changes, but I don't like the fact that you can't see/choose the city anymore only the State/Department/Province. Please add the feature back where you can see which city one is selecting in the State. Thank you.

Wireguard pre-shared key
Please add support for pre-shared key with Wireguard VPN connections. This is to prevent possible quantum computer related attacks, and it should be a low-hanging fruit for both implementation and performance.

Stop Auto Renewal
Why would anyone sign up for auto renewal without even trying your product. Do you have such low confidence in your product that you must include auto renewal in order to keep your business going? This should not be part of your business model. Once you pay for a plan (*auto renewal required) they make it as difficult as possible to remove auto renewal. I'm a new paying customer and this is how you treat me. I've wasted so much time and effort trying to figure out how to stop auto renewal, only to find that I must downgrade my…

Fix and report that Proton VPN Servers in Thailand are still not working after a month.
People should be aware that this issue continues and has been an issue that has been going on over a month. When connected to Proton VPN Servers in Thailand they redirect to different countries ie Bulgaria without any visibility. I have raised several cases with Proton on this and just get meaningless rhetoric. They have marked this issue as fixed on 4th of July but nothing is fixed and they are reporting all services are operational. This is a major pain for anyone living in Thailand like myself, and I find Proton's lack of transparency and communication poor. I only…

Add general location selection to app (like browser extension)
In the ProtonVPN extension I can search for a location, then click the location and it will connect to (I think) the best server in that location. For example, I can search for 'Phoenix' and just click that, and it will pick a server in the Phoenix area for me (I am assuming it's the best one at the time of connection).
In the apps, you have to select the individual server manually. Please make the app able to connect by selecting a general location like the extension.

VPN & Extension
Improve the free plan, before it was minimally worth it, but now it sucks, they blocked main functions like speed improvement only for premium when it was free.
Although 3, you could change the country and server of your choice, but now you can't, and on top of that, you have to wait up to 20 ******* minutes to change servers, and your extension is useless for ******* ****.
Openly admit that the extension is only for premium users, because they advertise it as a free option, but no, you have to pay.
Improve the VPN and the extension, or…

Configure which servers NOT to connect to.
Some sites may refuse to connect.
Therefore, we would like users to be able to configure VPN servers that they do not use by creating profiles.3 votes -
Adult content - move out states that Require ID Verification or create safe list of states
Consider moving servers out of states (like Virginia, for example) that require ID verification to access "adult content." Failing that, please allow VPN users to create a list of "safe" states or else to block/opt out of those that aren't safe for online browsing.
Allowing a pre-selected list of states would also be helpful for sites that only operate in certain regions of the U.S. and block access to states where they aren't in business.
