Proton Docs / collaboration suite
(folders and docs similar to GoogleDocs)
Proton mail needs some collaborative word processor and spreadsheet in a drive where people can securely work on it but only the person who owns the files can keep them and no one can download them or copy them.
Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

Proton drive need the function to do live edits and save edits on a documents into to the cloud as they are changed
- eg. I use a couple of sheets on google drive to constantly update information through the day -If I use proton mail I have to download the doccument, save it and then re-upload which is too fiddly - I currently have a link on my homescreen to google drive that takes me to the document that I edit and don't even have to click "save changes" I would like to be able to do this on proton drive.

Once protonmail has collaborative docs like gdrive does meaning documents & spreadsheets then many users will finally be able to not use google anymore. Probably lots of people concerned with privacy will hop on the protonmail train :)

Came to post this. Once protonmail offers documents that can be collaborated by different users like google drive / docs / sheets, we will no longer have to depend on google for any of their products or services.

Agree with the original post.
Tight integration with iOS camera. Replace iCloud, automatically sync photos.
I will pay $100/year for this.

I'm not super technical so maybe this was already covered and I didn't realize it, but 3 things. First, the ability to preview common files, like spreadsheets and word docs. Second, to be able to work on an editable document (again, like word or excel) and have it save in ProtonDrive instead of having to save locally, then re-upload. Third, to be able to open a file without having to download it first. The whole process is cumbersome.

Be able to edit txt and office files, within ProtonDrive (Web and IOS/Android App), simultaneously will be grand.

I would also say that it would be great to have sync apps for mobile and desktop clients.

Also support fully open source apps so I can use f-droid instead of sideloading apks.

Hi Proton team,
thanks for your great products.
sorry if this is duplicate, but:
please, please provide public API for the Proton Drive! REST / protobuf or whatever you use inside.
Engineering community would take care about the rest, making the joint effort with Proton team for the Drive to shine!
the FUSE driver, for example, would highly enrich the ecosystem and even more increase your popularity by providing a gate for GUI and / or CLI clients. Number of SaaS could have been built on top of your infra as safe and private data plane.
In case API is there, I would hopefully myself allocate time to write the FUSE driver or, I'm sure community would pick it up.
Best regards,

Thank You PM for beginning to introduce a Drive; but as others have mentioned it hasn't many of the practical features needed for day to day collaborative work.
I'm in favor of there being an alternative so people can cut loose of Google drive (or One Drive) completely.
As it is I will need to continue to keep a gmail account (or one drive for some) in order to share with others the documents we are mutually editing; yet maintain a PM account for a domain email address and the security benefits enjoyed with PM.

Is there an update to a desktop / sync app for protondrive? I see some discussions from a year ago indicating that it was a year away. Would love to consolidate my personal data here but need that sync for the drive.
