Linux Client
Proton Drive really needs the ability to sync desktop files automatically. This post focuses on a Linux client for Proton Drive.

Proton Unlimited here. I would prefer a solid GUI application, but even a CLI application will suffice for me. I don't have big requirements from the cloud, just synchronization of selected directories on many devices.

With the upcoming Windows/Mac OS AI spyware tools more and more people are switching to linux. Proton team, you definitely need to invest more on pushing ALL of your apps to Linux.

I need also a CLI version for linux to sync it to a backup server.

I think even if Linux users are a minority, they are a minority that intersects a lot with Proton's advocacy for privacy, and a big slice of those who tell their friends and family about privacy-friendly alternatives to mainstream companies. I think Proton should start treating Linux as an OS as important as Windows and MacOS even if the userbase is still very small in comparison.

I'd also like to emphasize that I would really appreciate a fast and efficient CLI app to synchronize a folder from my disk on Linux. No visual UI, no Electron, just a simple and fast CLI client that I can run as a systemd service and have my files encrypted, backed up and up to date on all my machines.
You'd be the first and only service to offer this solution!! Imagine how attractive this would make your product and all you have to create is a simple CLI app. Just write it in Golang and it will run neatly on all platforms... I can't believe that nobody is doing this.
I'd even pay extra for this.

I would really like to switch to proton, maybe with a family plan. But we use linux and paying so much money without a proper file sync is not an option. So I stay with the free account until a linux client for drive emerges.

I want to use this to import files into my paperless-ngx server.

The lack of proper Linux CLI support is keeping me from finally switching to Proton Drive. Sad!

Drive's performance is so bad for me in Linux that it's simply not usable. I see upload speeds of 500k-1mb at best and frequent failures on files larger than about 50mb. I can't believe it's not a priority considering the number of votes.

how comes that with more than 6500 votes this is still not a priority?

Lack of a Linux client to sync with Proton drive is a serious omission in the Proton group of apps.

I recently asked again for a native linux sync app and was told again that I should just use the web client. I finally decided, out of financial necessity, to start migrating from my old storage to Proton Drive via the web client. With ~26k files to upload from local disk I am now 4 days, 5 restarts of all of the failures I am now sitting listening to pod casts and clicking restart on individual files for over an hour. I am seriously wondering about the economics of something I am finding so labor intensive. And then there is management over time....
Please, please, please get us a CLI that we could use with an intelligent agent like rsync.

We need the automatic file sync in Linux

Some kind of automatic synchronization would be lovely! This is really the sole sore spot for me on an otherwise spectacular set of products. I get a lot of value out of Proton, so I'm pretty happy if this is the one box that remains unchecked... but still!

+1 on this. At the very least a CLI tool or folder synq.
-
Please, Proton team! We need it! You've already done it with Pass, VPN and mail. At least tell us it's something that's going to happen in the near future.

Please make a Linux client for your Drive a priority. I am a paying client and Linux has been my daily driver for 20 years. At the very least some limited integration for Linux in a sane way, i.e. CLI tool; leverage built-in mounted remote drives; just an electron app of your webapp in flatpak/snap; or even work with a company like insync (https://www.insynchq.com/ - I know it's not foss, but I did write "at the very least", not "ideally"). Any solution that wouldn't require me to work with my files via the browser, and download them locally - it's a mess and a hassle.

makes me wish i could use mail, pass and vpn together without drive since its basically useless without a client for my main OS

This is becoming a deal breaker for me. I am moving my work to linux, and really would like to use all proton apps form my work, but without Drive....

There is Proton VPN client for linux, Proton Mail Bridge for linux, why isn't there still a client for Proton Drive? One would think this is a very high priority...
