If you share a folder only the folder pointed to by the URL link records if it is shared and how many downloads have occurred using that link.

Within the shared folder the "details" menu option of each subfolder and file indicate they are not shared and doesn't record if they have been downloaded.

All shared objects need to indicate they are being shared and how many downloads have occurred. Currently the management of shared objects is very limited if you don't have this information.
