Show sync progress
The desktop app could show the sync progress (files synced/total files to be synced) in the Activity tab. That would make it easier to guess how long it might take for the whole syncing process to get completed.

How is this not a standard issue? It's a much-needed feature for those syncing large quantities of files to Proton Drive.

Very nice that it says it is syncing, but I never know how long it will be. A progress indicator, plus some kind of log to see what file(s) it is currently working on would be nice

This would be very nice to see when doing a large first-time sync or update.
The lack of visibility of sync progress makes the whole experience feel a bit unpolished.
Edit: I just got a new laptop and wanted to sync my files to it. I thought the app was broken because after a few hours I still couldn't see any files on my laptop. It just showed "initialisation in progress". I later realised after checking the log file that it was enumerating the entire file structure in preparation for adding them to my device. It would have been nice to know that this is what it was doing and see some sort of progress like 10,000/50,000 files discovered.

Yes !
It would be interesting to know how many files are uploaded and/or downloaded.
To know the upload and/or download speed.
Timing, an approximation of the time remaining before the end of uploading and/or downloading, for example.
Choose the number of upload and/or download files.
Broadly speaking, more or less the same information as OneDrive. -

Additionally it would be nice if the app showed "Encrypting" instead of syncing when it is in the process of encrypting a file before uploading it. Perhaps on a per-file view this can be shown per file that is being processed.
This takes a while for bigger files, and can get confusing when the app is using a full CPU core without any network activity.

Not only that, but there are times that the icon shows syncing, but all uploads completed and the icon previously demonstrated that syncing completed. AFAIK there is nothing else to do. So I don't know if it is stuck, if an error happened or whatever it is that syncing just won't complete.

I wish I could assign more than 3 votes as this is a critical piece of functionality for a drive app. Its absece, is akin to an email app with no knowledge of if an email has been sent.

Please show a list of the files being synced

Showing the upload speed (e.g., 1.2 MB/s) would also be nice.

It'd be really helpful if the Proton Drive for Windows (and subsequent applications for other operating systems) included some basic features. Top one, a status indicators for uploading files. For example, I just get a spinning dot when I am uploading a 100GB file. Is it 20%? Is it 65%? Who knows right now. I think any file uploads or downloads for that matter, should include indicators. Additionally, the ability to schedule uploads would be great. For example, only allow uploads between certain hours to accommodate uploads during off peak usage. A third enhancement would be an indicator to show whether a sync is adding a file or removing a file during synchronization.
