Support older macOS versions
Currently, the Proton Drive app for Mac is only compatible with version 13 of macOS (Ventura). However, many Mac users operate older versions and may be unable to upgrade due to hardware constraints (older Macs). From an environmental standpoint, it should be able to keep one's computer for as long as it works, and not be forced to trade up just to be able to access a new feature...

I use either Linux or Mac OS on my computers. I'd like to sync my files onto Proton Drive. I am currently stuck with Mac OS Monterey (version 10.12), but Proton Drive requires newer version of Mac OS. There is no Linux version of Proton Drive desktop app (yet). So Proton Drive is currently useless for me....

While it is great to have support on Mac OS, but it would expand the usability of Proton drive to many more folks if older Mac OS can be supported.

I totally agree would love support for my old iMac with Mojave macOS 10.14

I was very excited to see that Proton Drive seem to have a good integration with MacOS which would make it possible for me to migrate away from Dropbox (ease of access to files is essential)... And then unfortunately discovered that it's not compatible with my laptop (Monteray, 12.7.6).
As my laptop is working well for my needs I don't want to be forced into upgrading it.
Great if you could include support for these Macs.

Same here, we have 3 macs only 1 of which can use the proton drive app.
Dropbox and Onedrive apps that are similar work ok on mac os prior to 13 so i can't see it's an issue with the OS.
This is very dissapointing, particualrly as we've just signed up to the family proton subscription on the basis of testing on the newer mac where everything worked great, -

Any updates on this?
For context, I have a 2015 Macbook Pro running macOS Monterey, v12.6.8 , great computer that I do not plan on leaving behind.
I would really really really appreciate the ability to have proton Drive on this computer!

Proton, what are you going to do about this ?
I, like many others, use a MacPro 2013 running Catalina, great machine, but the Planned Obsolescence policy of Apple (and many others) is something I will never conform to.Nothing wrong with older hardware, i even use a few 20 year old MacMini's on which I had to install Ubuntu 18 to keep them alive since they go no further than Lion.
btw there are more reasons for not upgrading to an M-series processor...Maintaining privacy is important in this crazy world where privacy is under siege, and Proton does great work.
So please, please, compile Proton Drive for Catalina. -

Welp... Guess I'll add my voice to the choir that this is still an issue affecting people like me. If Proton seriously wants to stand for privacy and defending freedom through tech your team has got to realize not supporting older macOS versions is giving in to Apple's forced obsolescence of perfectly functional machines which appears to run counter to your mission. Not to mention that many people can't even afford newer machines... especially with the way the world's going all goofy. Help a sister out Proton peeps! Quick edit for context: we (average people) need privacy now more than ever. If you want to be a part of people getting off of tech like Google you need to take this type of compatibility seriously. The movers and shakers who are trying to fight for some semblance of democracy around the world right now deserve a chance at protection and they often can't afford a Proton subscription AND a new computer.

Greetings, Olivier thank you for starting this thread. Have we had any developments with this option? Has anyone received a version that supports an older MacOS from contacting user support?

I'm just chiming in that I have two machines: an M1 Mac running Sequoia 15.2 (no problem) and a late-2015 Intel-based iMac running Monterey 12.7.6, which is not supported.
I plan on using the iMac until it stops working. As other commenters have noted, I can use the web UI but the integration would be a very welcome addition.

Il semble que les machines Apple trop vieille pour passer sur macOS Ventura ne psuissent pas installer l'application Proton Drive. Est-il possible d'envisager une application compatible avec macOS Monterey ?

This is such a frustrating issue, running macbook pro 2012 which works perfectly and fine with dropbox, please help us out proton.

I too have a number of perfectly good Intel-based Macs, and it's a bit cumbersome to have to use the web app to move files between them now that I moved my file system to Proton. Please release an Intel build for the Mac OS version of Proton Drive.

I just typed a whole long response, hit Post Comment, and the entire Post just vanished.
This is BS, and the failure to support older versions of the Mac OS is also BS.

This is simply ridiculous. Forcing users to Upgrade is one thing, but in the Apple ecosystem, where they render perfectly good hardware totally obsolete for Fun and Profit by not allowing slightly older Macs to Upgrade, while blocking support for software on the currently installed OS..

Why don't you offer ProtonDrive on 'old' Macs? Dropbox who offers similar features works fine.

Using a 2013 Macbook, it's frustrating that the desktop app will work on my boot camp Windows 10 drive, but not the native Big Sur MacOS drive. Please fix this!

Big Sur, quite annoyed that it won't run on something only a few years old.

Yes, PLEASE! I'm running High Sierra and can't upgrade without a system collapse. Please please create a backwards-compatible version!
