Photo Albums, tagging, location search
Albums, photo tagging, search by location for Proton Drive Photos.
Pretty much like Google Photos, but encrypted. Probably without the automatic classification since that would require you to see my photos :D

With Proton developing Proton Scribe and other AI assistants, I feel an optional, private by default photo tagging (face recognition etc) is a good use of AI to simplify our daily task.

The iPad experience is lagging the ability to swipe and delete photos easily. The android version does a better job, although I find myself failing to complete some swipe events.

Being able to TAG photos would be very useful for categorising photos into events, people, projects, location etc.
This would give similar functionality to folders using e.g. select all photos tagged <Holiday2024> or <FredBloggs> or <HouseExtensionProject> or <myHomeTown>

It's currently impossible to share multiple photos at once in the web interface (and potentially on mobile as well). Having a feature to create arbitrary albums with dedicated sharing settings would be a huge, huge improvement (that's a very basic feature in all photo management systems). Please implement this as a top priority!

The lack of albums and ability to add photos to an album together is what prevents our family from migrating to Proton completely! Please, please, please!!! CONSIDER adding those features!

Slowly moving off of O365 in pieces as Proton delivers. Easy Photo Album creation and management capability is a key piece.

Anecdotally, this is the feature I hear people want the most when I try to recommend this service, passing proton up for Google services or Apple services instead. The inability to easily manage photos, ESPECIALLY on mobile, is IMO critical for better adoption.
I created an account here specifically to say this, and if anyone else is reading this please also consider doing the same to vote and comment.

Don't want a replica of Google Photos. Right now, the creation of sub folders within photos and moving photos to different areas would be a major improvement.

I like that "all in one" upload to one pile, but I would like to make a photo album after some vacations and then manually move some pictures there, which is now not possible?

Sounds nice, but there are so many other things that are more important for Proton to deal with than this right now.

Photo Albums, tagging, location search...
Sounds nice but defeats the purpose of ProtonDrive and that is to get away from all those google features. Drive Photos is fine as its. Its a place to store stuff without being catalogued by a machine, that machine then stores record of every photo. Thats what google and microsoft have been doing, looking at our pics.
PLEASE DONT RUIN ProtonDrive with this

I use Google Photos daily but without photo albums, tagging, location, search, potential advanced features such as classifications, it cannot be replaced by Proton Drive.

Absolutely needed!!

Look into what Ente Photos has done with on device machine learning.

As an example, ente.io is open-source and offers various features for photo management.

It’s essential to be able to organize photos into shareable folders. Having to share one photo at a time is unsustainable. This is the final step for ditching Google Photos. We need to be able to easily share albums with family even if they don’t have a proton account.

Given how Proton has announced their release of an on-device AI tool, it should be feasible to do a similar thing for photos.

Having a cool little photo map, some basic facial recognition to help me categorise and search easily and I'm completely sold.
I appreciate this is a complex ask, but the support for it is there and if Proton can pull this off I can finally ditch Google, as Google Photos is the only service I still use.

I take a lot of photos and being able to organize them into albums is extremely important to me so I can easily find them/show when needed.

Add albums and other sort methods. Being able to then share out the albums with links that can expire like with drive. Maybe even a dedicated proton photos app
