Prorated Cash Refunds
Post 2: Prorated Cash Refunds
Title: Offer prorated cash refunds (not just account credit) when cancelling annual add-ons mid-cycle
Body:
Currently, if a user cancels an annual add-on subscription (such as Lumo Plus or Meet Professional) partway through the billing year, Proton issues a prorated refund only as account credit, not as a return of funds to the original payment method.
This policy effectively locks the user's money into the Proton ecosystem, even when they no longer wish to use the service. It forces users to either:
Keep the subscription active to avoid "losing" the credit, or
Accept that their money is trapped as credit they may never use.
For a service that prides itself on user sovereignty and trust, this feels contradictory. True user control includes the ability to exit a financial commitment and recover unused funds.
I propose that Proton implement prorated cash refunds to the original payment method for cancelled annual add-ons. This would demonstrate genuine respect for the user's financial autonomy and align Proton's billing practices with its ethical mission.
