Sharing a calendar using existing contacts
Hello,
I would have 3 proposals related to the sharing of the agenda:
- Allow to share one of my calendars with another ProtonMail user present in my contacts.
- Allow to invite another ProtonMail user present in my contacts to participate to an event.
- Allow a specific ProtonMail user in my contacts to edit one of my calendars.
This is very useful for example when your spouse is not available to know if she will be available at a specific date and to define a date with someone while inviting her to this event.
This can also be valid for employees in the company

Sharing a calendar is available on Web.
On next iterations we would like to enable the editing permission on mobile apps and add in the future to only share the "busy" information

Sharing calendars with existing contacts would be very useful for users of https://canalturfma.com/. We provide daily race programs, predictions, and results, and being able to share upcoming races or notifications with friends would help bettors stay informed and coordinate more effectively.

This feature would be especially helpful for platforms like https://casacoursema.com, where we provide daily horse racing results and reports. If users could share race schedules or upcoming events with their existing contacts, it would make following Tiercé, Quarté, or Quinté+ races much more convenient and engaging.

Hi, I really like the idea of sharing calendars with existing contacts. On my site, https://zoneturfma.com, we track horse racing events and schedules daily. Being able to share race dates or notifications with friends and fellow bettors through a calendar would make it much easier to keep everyone updated on upcoming races and results.

I really like this idea. Sharing calendars with existing contacts can save a lot of time and avoid confusion. This would be very helpful for students and academic teams as well.
We also help students understand how university portals work and how to manage academic tools here:

This is a very useful feature request. Calendar sharing makes collaboration so much easier, especially for teams and organizations. I’ve seen similar functionality work really well in employee self-service portals like ESS systems.
We recently shared a guide about managing employee services online here:
https://essutumishi.net/It’s interesting to see how platforms like Proton are improving productivity tools

For the record: the latest Calendar on iOS does come with the editing shared calendars. Never thought I would see the day ;-)

Approaching the two-year anniversary of waiting for functionality that seems simple to users yet remains crucial - and still isn't implemented...

Adding events to a shared calendar from iOS is basic functionality that is completely lacking. Unacceptable! August 23, 2023: "out next interations" will add this. There have been MANY updates without this feature.

Well, that's it. I can't wait any more for this feature, which was dangled as a possibility nearly a year and a half ago. Not even an update on progress in all that time? That's pretty bad.
I feel let down and have been paying for proton *and* a different calendar app for all this time, so that I can share that calendar with family on mobile.
I will now start the process of downgrading my subscription to basic email only. The calendar app lacks this key feature for me and the photos backup is just too basic.
I really want proton to succeed, and I'm fairly sure they will at this point. It's a shame that it's just not a good fit for me at the moment. I suspect I'm not alone.

The lack of movement on this for the ability to add events to a shared calendar on iOS has gone on way too long. You keep rolling out little requested features when something like this that's so basic to family/group integration gets ignored.

Here comes September...
Could you please provide an update on the availability of this essential feature? The ability to share calendars in edit mode with collaborators on iOS is fundamental for fully utilizing the calendar product.

I'm sorry to say it, but the inability to share calendars with editing permissions in the mobile apps is pushing me towards switching to another provider. I know that this seems like a very niche feature, but Proton calendar can't work for me as a family calendar until this feature is added. I suspect a few others are in the same position.
I appreciate that the team is limited in resources, but you told us that this feature is coming above nearly a year ago now. I've been waiting patiently with no news, while other, entirely new, products like photos and docs have been rolled out. The pace of new products is great, but breadth without depth in your products will eventually cause problems. Please spend the resources to make the existing products the best they can be before rolling out the next new shiny thing 🙏

Hi, is there any update on when editing permissions for shared calendars will become available on the mobile apps?
Thanks

"Available" and functional are two very different things. I have been waiting on a response since JANUARY 31ST as to why this doesn't work to share a calendar with a Google Calendar user (which I expect is the main use case for many Proton users who have spouses, partners or family members who are not Proton users).
What made Proton Calendar the red-headed stepchild of Proton apps? Why are you allocating so many resources to developing new apps, instead of shoring up glaring deficiencies in core functionality in your existing apps? Just last week I got an email from this forum from someone who is leaving Proton due to the fact that it is still not possible to edit a single instance of a recurring meeting with invitees. I cannot say I blame them in the slightest, as it's been YEARS. These are core features, not "ideas" for how to improve Proton Calendar. Truly sad to see the pitiful amount of attention and resources allocated to this key web service.

I am definitely missing the collaboration feature, i.e. sharing and editing common calendars. Searching through the proposals here, I found quite a few requests for this feature. The combined number of votes would be high...

I need to share calendar with other Proton account. Without the option, I cannot convince the other users to move from Gmail Calendar to Proton Calendar! This means, Proton doesn't get the additional paid users!

I am a "Visionary" paid subscriber to Proton and very interested in seamless calendar sharing with my family from individual user accounts (NOT Business accounts requiring a domain name).
It is disappointing you are holding back from allowing this...it seems like a simple thing to implement.
