Many important dates are missing from US holiday calendar
The recently added holiday calendars are a great addition, but I find that the holidays included for my country are too limited. I live in the US, and what our government designates as "official" holidays lacks a large number of significant holidays and other important dates.
Some notable holiday exclusions include Father's Day, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, Halloween, and even Easter!
As for other important dates that are missing, Tax Day, Election Day, and the start and end of Daylight Saving Time may not be holidays, but they are still very important dates to know!
Google Calendar includes all of these dates and more in the expanded version of their US Holidays and Observances calendar, making it a much more complete, and more useful, holiday calendar. Now that Proton offers holiday calendars as a feature, I would love to see more complete calendars included as an option.

I can't speak for other countries, but I imagine this issue is not exclusive to the US. Hopefully providing more calendar choices wouldn't be too difficult of an update for the Proton team.

I switched to Google Calendars for this very reason although I'm not a fan of anything Google

Most religious observances are indepdenent of country, so adding them separately would make sense to me -- Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, etc.
Separately, secular observances such as Arbor Day, Earth Day, etc. would be suited for their own calendar.

This is fairly important to me as well, as I rely on my calendar for remembering holidays as I'm bad with dates.
This honestly kind of makes proton calendar nearly useless for me unless I go and populate these holidays manually. For now I guess I'll see if I can't add google's holiday calendar, which feels... dirty.

I understand and agree, and I am going to put in a separate feature request about this. Just adding a bunch of holiday markers per country can be complicated and less than ideally useful for all users.
