Problem:
Currently you need to go to the menu to change from monthly/weekly/daily view, which is not very fluid if you want to change views back and forth quickly.

Solution:
As the up/down swipe is not being used this could be used to change between those views. For navigating quickly you could then swipe up to zoom out to month or year view and then swipe down to zoom in to the week or day you want.
