Increase storage
Increase storage or create a an email downloading vault to store old emails and free space in the account!

With the new domain, rebranding and pricing we also increased available storage significantly (https://proton.me/pricing). Marking this as done - for any new ideas regarding this please open a separate topic.

excatly! i am now paying $5 monthly for plus plan, i dont need custom domain or 5gb of storage, even my 12+ years old gmail storage usage is mere 1.5gb.
I went for plus plan because I wanted to support protonmail, not that i need it. We need cheaper plan!

The fact there is only 5BG by default makes me wait before upgrading. If there were 15 or 25 GB by default this would have been done a long time ago. Fastmail for the same price gives 25GB and I don't understand why protonmail can't do it. 95% of the user will never exceed 5GB so it doesn't cost a lot more to protonmail. However people are lot more likely to buy the upgrade. I am almost certain i will never exceed 5GB, however I(and a lot of people) are reluctant to buy the upgrade because some other services (e.g. fastmail) offer a lot more storage for the same price.
To conclude it would be beneficial to protonmail to put the default storage higher than it is now because more people will buy the upgrade and it won't cost more for them.
If protonmail does this they would literally be the best email provider as they offer the same storage as everyone else and have all their existing advantages.
PS: If what this tread propose it done I will instantly buy the upgrade as protonmail will be the best solution.

I would like to add MINUS votes if possible. This request is ridiculous.

1 GB at least would be great. Me as a student can not afford a paid plan.

If you like google because it offers you 15 GB as a starting point and thats all you care about, you can go with it :)
It is already great to have free plan available to those who don't need anymore or that aren't able to afford an account. If you are using protonmail, it means you already value the service, and paying for having extra feature (and for the small price that they ask...) its the least you could do.

this is their scam , they dont allow you to delete messages so you have to pay for the monthly and then when you go over they can block access to your account . proton scam mail nowadays

I don’t understand why you would need so much space for just e-mail : e-mail is plaintext, it hardly weights anything… as for attachments, one can just download them to their computer and delete it from the server. A mail server is not a file-hosting service or a drive after all…

Fully agree. Same with the VPN offers.
Plans seem to market organisations, not individual users. A single user choosing a paid plan for mail or VPN would pay a lot for services/features he or she does not need. It indeed makes sense to offer a plan tailored for a single user as in the post above. Or tailored to a family.

I'm more than happy with 500MB for the free account with privacy in the first place.

New Basic/Starter Plan
I don't mind to pay but I'd rather pay less for a lower entry level plan with less features than the Plus Plan. 4 EUR/Month are too much for features I do not need.
If there was a plan that let's say, costed half of the Plus (2 EUR/Month) with features intermediate between the Free and the Plus plans, I'd happily pay. Donations for getting nothing are absolute non sense. People would be more encouraged to contribute if you gave them something back...
For instance... you either pay 2 EUR/Mo or donate anything between 24 and 48 EUR and you get ProtonMail Basic with the following features:
1 User
2 GB of Storage
1 address
NO Custom Domain
500 Msgs/day
100 Folders / 100 Labels
Limited Support
Custom Filters
AutoresponderThis way you would encourage more users to subscribe and eventually scale out to a bigger plan at a later stage. Personally speaking, for a home user (although tech savvy) like myself, the Plus plan is too expensive and with too many useless features... please give us more options. You'd get more money that from donations and have a bigger paying user base.
Happy 2018 and I hope to see these changes in the new year!

With PLUS the storage capacity is 5.0 GB and manual deletion is required to continue operating. Suggestion: Include options such as (1) automatically delete all messages more than a certain age (such as 3 months) in order to remain below 5.0GB.
(2) when 5.0 GB is reached, automatically delete the oldest messages as needed to allow new messages to be sent/received. -

More incremental storage space options and a better user interface.

Google Also has unlimited photo and video storage at 16 megapixels. and 1080p. if you own a pixel you get unlimited RAW photos and unlimited uncompressed 4k. Which is VERY competitive for someone who likes everything to be in the cloud for if something happens. And unlimited book uploads through google play books. seriously.

And game data through google play games. unlimited save backups. that's, why everyone uses, google its options.

I agree. google offers 15 gbs, and unlimited document, sheets, slide, notes, photo, and even music through uploading your cd collecting through google play music. are unlimited. the 15 gbs is just for files that sit outside that realm. To be more competitive protonmail should atleast offer free users 2 gbs of storage. no unlimited anything needed.

I think an annual fee would be fair for protonmail users and the company. $2 a month would be $24 per year, certainly worth it for a service that has NO ads and does not collect personal info, preferences, etc. As another person commented, I can see the sense in offering a small amount of storage for a limited time for free so people can try out the service. I just got an account 3 days ago and if I decide this is the service for me, I will make a donation, that, in my mind, is the fair thing to do. Help out the company that is providing a service that I am using on a daily basis! As far as improvements . . . I don't have the need to encrypt anything. My Yahoo account was hacked and I wanted a private account with minimal chance of being hacked again. My account seems a little slow to 'send' but I suppose that's because of encryption? Hopefully that won't bother me and I'll stick with protonmail. Thank you for all you do! Joan

Donated $20 with the expectation of additional storage to go fro 500M to 1gig. Have yet to see increase. Won't do that again. Guess protomail is okay with taking the cash and providing nothing, not even a thanks.
