This is the single reason my family is not using Proton except for me. I know a "business plan" would circumvent the 3 domains limit on the family plan, but at what cost. It's ridiculous that you can have 6 users but only 3 custom domains. I am certainly not asking for unlimited anything, but at least 6 custom domains are mandatory in my opinion to have the family plan make sense. 6 custom domains would still differentiate the family plan from the business plan as well.
As long as this limit is there I keep using Proton Unlimited for myself and iCloud+ for family which hosts e-mail addresses at no additional cost to other services we have anyway.

Not much action from Proton on this request.
When contacting Proton Support, asking for an option to pay for having just a single custom domain more with my Family subscription, they replay that I can buy a Proton Business Suite subscription. Considering my ask - a proposal that is completely overkill; with a cost 3 times as high as the Family plan...@all, you might consider voting these posts (re. the same topic) up too:

I agree. In my family, each member has their own domain. The fact that I can only use 3 domains with my family subscription prevents me from fully onboard my elderly parents and my sister to Proton - currently they are only using Proton Pass.
@rpaulson illustrates this very well. "More users drive the need for more domains".Please, Proton, activate one domain per user 🙏

Yeah this would be very appreciated. It needs to scale. Possibly it could even be implemented as a separate charge, to "add a domain" & charge a modest extra amount for that, to be applied on any of the plans. Instead of just greying out the "Add a domain" button, it would bring up a modal asking for money, which some people would pay.

I agree. It's currently the only reason that stops me from subscribing to Proton Family.
Proton Unlimited (1 user) = 3 domains
Proton Duo (2 user) = 3 domains
Proton Family (6 user) = 3 domainsMakes no sense to me =)
I get that it's maybe not necessary to have 6 x 3 = 18 domains, but it should upscale at least a little bit compared to the individual plan.

This should be the minimum. Preferably it would be 1 custom domain for each user + 1 for the family.

I second this. My family has a family domain name but now my family needs more domains (one for my Father's professional consulting account which is going untended at the moment)

I agree, all my family members have a custom domain with a catch-all. Now it feels like 3 members do not get the full-experience.
