Inactive account policy - keep account when deleting data
Hello proton team
I have a new suggestion regarding the inactive account policy. Instead of permanently deleting a user's account if they haven't logged in for a year, I propose an alternative approach.
The idea is to delete their data while keeping the account itself, which would minimize costs for Proton. In the event that the user logs in again at a later time, they would login to an empty account (like if they just created it), but at least they won't lose their email address.
A lot of users keep a protonmail account as a recovery email for other accounts.
Proton email addresses cannot be reassigned anyway, so I believe this suggestion is good for Proton and for the users.
Thank you!

They won't do it, they showed they do not care about their users and being trusted. They went back on their official policy that promised a permanent security guarantee to their supporters, a few weeks after using it for their marketing campaign. ProtonMail has turned into yet another soulless corporation, willing to ***** over the masses for the benefits of the shareholders. It's time to migrate, unless you're fine with them pulling all sorts of cr*p like this again and again.

Yeah. Why delete account instead of data?

Sounds reasonable. Just wish I could remember the password of my free account….

Thanks for adding this. I hope Proton realises how much trust matters for their existing users and potential new users and will do the right thing and edit the policy, thus not going back on their word. Otherwise, it might be seen as a bait and switch tactic to onboard new users with false advertising.
