Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

A chat option like hangouts would go a long way. If this feature is added It should be implemented into the website and not an extension from the chrome web store.

There is something called "Signal" and Threema" exactly for "secure end-to-end encrypted" chat and open source code.

Agreed! This would be nice to see.

Agree with all them that write that exist Threema, but ProtonMail should do fusion with Threema for a better chat platform, maybe with elliptic curve keys and integrating ProtonVPN for a better "security".
ProtonMail+Threema+ProtonVPN= Fat Gogeta

Hey, I know in the actually we have discord and slack and WhatsApp. But I really thinks that Proton can create a hibrid option to create really secure encripted chats!
WhatsApp is simple chat tool but I think proton should do this inspired on discord because you only would need your mail to chat in secure chats. Discord is famouse on the Gamer community but it’s a potentially really extrem good tool for business.
If proton do a hybrid app like he first tab would be normal chat and the second option would be using chat servers then I think Proton can create a really good chat tool using Discord as inspiration

I really like Signal for secure text but would prefer it, or something even better to come from Proton folks I would trust it a whole lot more and I know you would do a great job.

Threema does exactly that, replace hangouts with an encrypted alternative :)

Should use the Matrix protocol as per:
https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/284483-feedback/suggestions/34326823-implement-matrix-protocol-for-encrypted-chat-and-cFor the same reason that you wouldn't want to build an email service that could only talk to other people using that same email provider

That's very good idea! I would love to see Proton Messenger in this time. It will be more focused on privacy, simple, smart and mainly another alternative to Facebook and Google cartel.

We have Signal, so what is the point?

My friends swear by WhatsApp which I do not support membership and therefore complete dependence on FaceBook. Can ProtonMail one day provide the same service as WhatsApp, the security and independence that ProtonMail brings?

Yes, please for crying out loud! Wire- the only end2end encrypted chat that works on all platforms and doesn't require phone/ phone number was acquired by some US data mining company and secretly changed their privacy policy.
At this point, there is no free cross-platform chat that can be reasonably trusted in regard to privacy protection. -

I would also appreciate some
kind of messenger service build by proton mail. The problem is that many of my friends use WhatsApp, so being able to communicate with them would not be possible. -

I want to talk to someone currently on Hangouts, using a secure platform but the only information I get is a female's name in Dallas, TX and go to Wal-Mart and send money.
No routing/transit number.
What should I do? -

Have you considered partnering with Wire another ethical company

I have seen on gmail that there is a chat called hangouts. I would love to have a protonmail hangouts that I am able to chat with gmail users.

I would like the same except that I would like to hangout with non-protonmail users.

We have been waiting for a messenger built-in in the mail or separately. Please do.
**Yes, there are a lot of messengers right now, but you can trust with confidence two or three. If the chat was inside the mail, That would solve the issue.
There are friends who do not use instant messengers at all. From the principle. Only protonmail is trusted. This is already a synonym for safety and reliability. -

I would like to have protonMessages app for SMS management and syncing them in cloud.
I'm afraid my SMSes are not so secure with default application.
It would be also nice to see my SMSes in browser on laptop. -

Wickr is an incredible messenger app. It uses 4096 bit encryption like proton mail allows. I use it a lot.
