Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

Concentrate on making the VPN TV friendly with kill switch and auto connect feature, I've had my IP exposed a few times thinking it's connected for it to disconnect, don't get too far ahead of yourselves, this isn't needed in my opinion.
Keep up the good work 👍🏻.

Well in stead of developing your own chat, why not purchase or merge with Signal or the other Swiss privacy company Threema?

Dear Proton,
Please *do not* create another chat app. We don't need more fragmentation in that space. If you want to support encrypted chats, throw your weight behind Signal. Promote them, donate to them, contribute to their code, maybe there's a way to integrate Signal (the actual app and platform, not just the protocol) into Proton apps, I don't know. But please don't create yet another chat app. We need privacy and *interoperability* in chat apps, not another silo.
And to be honest, I worry that you're overextending yourselves. Some parts of Proton's existing apps need a good deal of polish in UI and UX compared to other apps on the market. Focus on making your own apps amazing, not trying to get into the saturated field of chat apps.
Thanks.

As many other people pointed out, please don't create yet another chatting app.
User base is key, and also the development would be slow.Instead, create a Proton Matrix chat or contribute and promote another already existing open source app like Signal.

Please work on bringing the various secure chats together rather than creating Yet Another Chat Program with a small userbase. Communication programs are nearly useless without large user bases. Chatting with my three friends who I cajoled into using ProtonChat is OK, having significant number of my contacts frictionlessly find that our communication is now secure is much more valuable. Integrate with Signal and other messaging services to expand the userbase rather than a Secret Service type secure chat with a few thousand users. RCS, Appletalk, Whatsapp, Signal, Threema, Very little of my traffic is secure, because everyone is set on their current app.

I would prefer Proton to just create their own Matrix client and help work on the Matrix protocol, rather than reinvent the wheel.

I like the name "Proton Chat". If you build this app, please keep the interface separate from Proton Mail for simplicity.

I want a partnership between Proton and Threema.

i'd like to see a signal protocol with chat, video call both 1-by-1 and group even with screen sharing. that's the only one with everyone can trust.

Having a private messaging app is very important to me. I like the idea shared by Daniel to have a "Discord" like messaging app. Sharing photos, private information is valuable!

I would also encourage use of the Matrix protocol for interoperability.

Yes, please develop a secure Chat feature of Proton Email. There is a very great need for a secure chat service that, I believe, Proton would do better than anything out there currently. Thank you.

I would love to see a chat messaging app that's like Discord but is fully encrypted with auto delete features. A big flaw in Discord is that everything is public and not encrypted. In fact, everything you talk about with friends or family on Discord could be subpoena'd randomly by a court case you may not have be part of. Your messages, in public servers could be sent and read by random plaintiffs which is kind of insane to me.

I would love to have a Proton alternative to Google Voice for making telephone calls and with a phone number using OBItalk or something like it, and also for texting.

Agreed, a messaging app from Proton would be great. I don't put much trust in the others - even Signal now as Katherine Maher is on the board of directors for Signal, and she has close ties to the deep state (https://www.city-journal.org/article/katherine-mahers-color-revolution).

I suggest using the Signal protocol for Proton Chat.
Unlike Signal, ProtonChat could use their own servers rather than rely on AWS, and I think the ability to sign up to Proton without a phone number is a major plus and a major cost save since there are no SMS registration fees.
