Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

I wish this service had a vote DOWN button.
There are sufficient alternatives out in the wilds of the internet to deliver this requirement.
All this does is distract the Proton Dev people and push precious resources onto frivolous projects when they should be focusing on their core service that we have already paid for, being EMAIL ...that is still deficient in so many areas.
Grrr

Considering the upheaval that WhatsApp is involved in would it be possible for you to come up with a Secure Messaging Facility / App to compliment your already excellent email and VPN facility...

I'm with the many who recommend Signal, and we use it throughout our family.
WhatsApp may use Signal's protocol, but the servers at WhatsApp store your decryption key. This means your messages can be decrypted by coding errors, by crooked employees when curious or when payed off, or when the company forced to do so by the authorities.
If you are truly concerned about keeping your SMS messages private, I wouldn't recommend WhatsApp.

Then go back to FB!! Why are you even here? Social sites are expensive to run and rape your data. period.

It would be a great idea IF you had someone there to talk to.
There already are several secure+encrypted+fully-open-source chat programs, but it's hard to convince your family and friends to use it, so it would be a bit waste of resources to build that app. -

Agreed, no need to start a new project. This already exists. There are lots of things that don't exist, no need to spend time on the things that do exist.

I would gladly pay extra for this feature. (Even though I am happy with ThreeMa)
(And I paid for a VPN service ($7/month), before you gave us ProtonVPN)
Paying $30 per month, is ,in my opinion, a steal for all the services you provide. -

In my opinion, ProtonChat should automatically delete messages that are older than two days, unless a user will save them in special folder, for example as "to do", "reminder", etc. This would allow to save space on servers and of course to improve security. For users usually there is no need to come back do messages that we send on daily basis.

It would be better to use the gold standard for security. SIGNAL. It's available for all platforms and is open source.

We need a support that just answer (would be nice), take action and make things happen.
No access to an email account for more than a week is just intolerable!!!!! -

Be *securely* notified of new messages -- without the mail contents.

I use maybe a dozen methods of messaging both email and i.m I use whatsapp, wire, imessage, telegram, email and so on. The only one that breaks my workflow is proton mail by forcing me to log in with manual typing every time on every device, as a result I have found I tend to avoid using it; which isn't ideal. Protonmail is probably the best, but I need it to work (meaning to flow) seamlessly. Please. If this is my user error I will be very happy to hear it :-)

There's already Wire, which doesn't require your phone number and has open source clients.
