Proton Chat - Messaging app
Let's make it in some math style:
ProtonMail : Gmail = ProtonChat : Hangouts
:)
Secure private chat same principle of secure email, but applied to chats.

Suggestion: maybe a XMPP server would be a nice temporary solution for chat.

I would also like to use chat in protonmail. I migrated from gmail to protonmail and having a chat app beside protonmail is realy a great feature. Actually my family doesnt want to migrate on protonmail because they like the gmail chat so much. Really its nothing special but people got used to it. Any update on proton chat is appreciated from my side. So please do share when the plans get an update or a change. BTW Thank you for making protonmail.

I think you should really talk to the people at wire (wire.com). They provide a beautiful messenger that makes encrypted calls, video calls, chats, etc.. They are also not based in the USA. Their app does not force users to use their phone number, which is a big plus.

+1 for this idea.
It could leverage SMTP if needed, basically running as a quick email back and forth, but with a neater front end for the user, to make it appear as IM?
Also, if the app would be too much work for a trial, perhaps a web based version for the pilot?

+1 for this feature.
Alternatively a secure browser based chat in the interim?

That is an amazing idea. You could also just use Tails, and Pidgin, if you want that kind of security and anonymity.

I would love this! A high-security, encrypted CHAT. I love ProtonMail, but what about ProtonChat?

make an encrypted chat option...it will be faster and more awsome then and will be very useful for group and team conversation

Video calls just like in hangouts would also be very welcomed.

I would suggest to build something like Signal by open whisper systems. Something that is not necessarily linked to protonmail accounts (or only protonmail users would be able to use it), but something like whatsapp. It could make you so much more famous.

ProtonChat with OTR would be beyond helpful.
Please implement it. -

A lot of mail clients have chat, so I think XMPP support for protonmail would be great so long as it enforces OTR!

Will have to send a password each time you have to communicate with a non-prontonmail profile no ?
I am not against a chat in protonmail, but I would prefer to see the Tox project grow up and reach its maturity. No account required, don't need the browser to be open to receive notifications.

Some kind of jabber or xmpp client extension that works encrypted with all contacts would be so awesome I won't have to pay for my vpn anymore or use pidgin otr and force other's to get the plug in. I would need nothing else but this email client for everything. It would be too awesome to be true.
