Log into Proton Pass directly with its own password (without having to log into a Proton account first)

The feature that was just released is not useful at all. Like in all other password manager, we need an EXCLUSIVE password just for the password manager that is different from the proton account. Without this, one ends up needing another password manager just for proton accounts, which is absurd.

It's frustrating that we're voting on this issue again, especially since the previously implemented solution doesn't align with what we initially requested and voted for.
The primary advantage of a password manager is the need to remember only one complex, high-entropy password for future-proofing.
However, the current two-password system not only fails to enhance security but potentially compromises it by encouraging users to create two separate, likely weaker passwords.
Proton has consistently had a willingness to listen to user feedback and implement changes accordingly. It's so weird that this particular issue remains unresolved.
We should have:A separate, single password for Proton Pass.
The option to disable TOTP in favor of using only security keys.
These basic features should have been addressed long ago and represent the minimum acceptable solution to this problem

Came here from https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/953584-proton-pass/suggestions/46727686-separate-password-for-proton-pass (with 2190 votes) which was marked as completed, while not yet implemented.

Although I am happy to see feature updates for Proton Pass, this is not the feature that was requested here. Therefore I think it is a stretch to mark this feature request as completed and force everyone to vote on a new feature request. Especially when it is the exact same request.

As what has been implemented is NOT what has been asked at first, it is a bit of a shame to make us re-vote for the exact same feature !
Or at least transfert the 2000+ original votes ! -

This issue is keeping me from switching from Bitwarden. I already voted for this once before.

This was not the idea, they were supposed to be separate passwords not an additional one. I still have to use another password manager to log in to proton mail/pass.

Why force us to vote again?

I agree, that's not why I voted, an additional password of PM for pass is an option it can be interesting, but I was more for the idea of GSim, a different password, not in addition ... it sucks so ...

Really bad that they force us to "restart" the voting process on this feature, when it already had over 2000 votes previously! The old suggestion was NOT closed since it's not been delivered.

Very disappointed the Proton Devs didn't understand the original request. I thought Proton was quite knowledgeable when it comes to security and sure enough needing two passwords and a pin code to get to my passwords is more secure but it's also not very user friendly. That's why originally users suggested to be able to use a different password to login to proton pass, not an extra additional login layer.

The fact that proton didn’t implement an already asked for feature they said they were doing and made their own version of it without understanding the core requirement of the original request is very upsetting . This shouldn’t even need to be voted on this is a huge miss on proton pass team and doesn’t give me great faith to use proton pass(I consider each proton app separate as each has their own development team)

The way you developed this feature is not what users asked for. This feature request is not closed
The way you implanted it is that we still login with our proton login, use our two factor, then use the extra passwordThe core requirement of this feature request to make proton useful for all users of this request is that proton pass has its own password that is independent from all other proton apps
Please reopen this feature request -

If I could give this more than 3 votes I would!
For me this is something that's making me consider switching back to 1password or Bitwarden and is definitely something Pass needs sooner rather than later

This is the best option. That way, everything is separate. Something like a password manager should be as isolated from the main proton account as possible.

For those looking to vote on a separate password completely detached from any existing Proton credentials, please vote here: https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/953584/suggestions/48633443

Unfortunately it appears that the Proton Pass Product Owner has decided to implement something that was designed to address their perception of user concerns rather than what the users actually wanted.
Perhaps the challenge of wanting to keep a single password across all apps vs separating the password for one of the apps presented too much of a deviation to their design philosophy.
I was looking forward to switching to Proton Pass, but sadly the current login setup is a dealbreaker for me.

As others have said, this is not at all what I voted for.
1Password is doing this perfectly, you have one password that is easy to remember that is required to unlock an already authenticated device. To authenticate a new device, you need the master key (which is not rememberable, but doesn't need to be) as well as the possibility to add a OTP layer of protection for new devices.
Feels super secure, and allows me to have an easy password the unlock whenever I need to use 1P to login on a website..
