Proton VoIP: Privacy-First Business Phone System
Title: Proton VoIP: Privacy-First Business Phone System for the Proton Ecosystem
Category: General Ideas / Proton Business
Proton currently offers a strong privacy-focused ecosystem—Mail, Calendar, Drive, VPN, Pass, Meet, Lumo—but lacks a critical piece for business customers: a phone/voice service.
This post consolidates several existing requests (virtual phone numbers, VoIP calling, PSTN integration with Meet) into a single, cohesive product proposal: a privacy-first business VoIP system that would serve as an alternative to commercial providers like OpenPhone/Quo, RingCentral, Nextiva, and Google Voice Business.
Proposed Core Features:
…Dedicated virtual phone numbers (local and toll-free, multiple countries) Inbound and outbound calling via5 votes -
Support for virtual microphones with third party apps such as Krisp to improve noise cancelling
This is the only reason why we haven't migrated from Zoom to Proton Meet yet. Even if noise cancelling exists and is good, third party apps can handle it much better.

Restrict access to meeting rooms by proton user ID and add a chat-only feature
Feature Requests for Proton Meet
Access-Controlled Meeting Rooms: Please add the ability to create meeting rooms with access controls that allow only specific Proton users to join. Currently, anyone with the meeting link can enter, which limits the ability to host private, invite-only sessions within a trusted group.
Contacts List: Please add a contact list where we can save the Proton users we interact with frequently from where we can choose which users can join a meeting. This would streamline the process of inviting participants and eliminate the need to manually send invites some other way.Standalone Chat with File…

Provide Adjustable Restriction How Far In Advance Meetings May Be Scheduled
Currently using freebusy.io to allow my clients and prospects to schedule meetings with me. One helpful feature is that clients and prospects may not schedule any meeting with more than X days in advance (currently set to 30 days).
This feature benefits me personally by giving me more control of my availability, and benefits clients and prospects who mistakenly select the wrong month/year father in advance than what they intended.
Thanks for considering this.

Include an option for Uncompressed Sound sharing (like Original Sound in Zoom)
In Zoom there's a toggle for meeting organisers to turn on "Original Sound for Musicians", this disables sound compression and noise cancelling and allows the attendees to listen to the sound being shared without any distortion or compression.
This is essential if sharing music as low frequencies get disabled by the compression algorithm.6 votes -
Save chat feature in Meet
I would like to be able to download a transcript of the chat from my meetings. While it would also be nice to have this as a feature for attendees, even a host-only option would be helpful. Bonus points if the chat automatically saves upon exit (like in Zoom).

Please allow for selection of host mail adress
For now my standard mail address is always selected es standard when creating a meeting within meet app on windows or within calendar.
Having multiple aliases for specific use cases a selection is a must for I won't use my private address for business cases or vice versa.
To be clear: I am not talking about simple login / Pass pseudonyms but about addresses I created in Mail.
Thanks!

Can you please add payment functionality for meetings?
I'd like to use Proton Meet for paid client sessions. Can you create a way for clients to pay when they book their meeting time?

Multiple Language Simultaneous Live Interpreting
As part of a network called Language for Justice we aim to bring decolonial language accessibility online and currently the only qualitative platform with this feature is Zoom. It would be great to be able to have possibility to invite multiple interpreters for different languages (not only from EU by the way). Great feature for Interpreters would be also interpreters being able to switch and listen to each other without interrupting each other (they usually work in pairs) and also the host and co-hosts being able to manage the settings to be of best support. If you ever need help…

Keyboard shortcuts for camera/microphone actions
Comparing with G Meet, they have shortcuts ⌘/Ctrl + D (to toggle Audio) and ⌘/Ctrl + E (to toggle Video), which is incredibly useful in larger meetings or if you're switching back and forth between windows or tabs to quickly unmute yourself.

Native Phone Functionality in Proton Meet
I would like to propose that Proton Meet introduce a native phone calling layer — essentially a privacy-first equivalent of the Phone System central in Microsoft Teams. The goal is simple: make it possible to place and receive real telephone calls (PSTN) directly from within Proton Meet, without ever leaving the Proton ecosystem.
What I Am Proposing
A unified voice communication module embedded in Proton Meet that allows users to:
Make and receive calls to/from regular phone numbers (PSTN) directly from the Proton Meet interface — no separate app, no third-party VoIP provider required.
Maintain a personal and shared contact…

have an option to mirror video feeds
I've never seen a video conferencing app do this before, and I admit that it is a niche use case, but being able to choose to mirror participants' video feeds could be useful when demonstrating things over video.

NGO free Proton Meet advanced features
As a volunteer for multiple grassroots community it is essential to us to have free access to such qualitative and safe tools (specially in an era where humanitarians are under attack), please consider creating free access to at least registered grassroots communities.

Make Proton Meet usable for teaching movement classes
I want to use Proton meet to teach Yoga classes. And escape zoom-:) I need to be able to:
make host video full screen for all participants;
host only has gallery video view (to queue individual students);
record host video & audio only for posting to my YouTube channel.

Automatically/Default/Remember to Hide Self-View
My default viewing preference is to hide my self-view when having a 1:1 meeting. Currently, after joining every Proton Meet call (often while conversing with a client), I have to click Settings > Hide Self-View.
Often, if the client is new to Proton Meet, I get to do this while also verbally walking them through how to do this process too.
It'd be great if Proton Meet could "remember" what my "hide self-view" settings were in my previous call.
Thanks!

Touch up my apparence
On zoom there is these options to touch up apparence with a scale of improving and it is great. Also the image seems too large on Meet, the face is less large in regard with the background.
