    That is a very good way to promote your premium plans.
    I would pay for a combined email/storage space without a doubt. I still hesitate to do so just for email.

    Would be an interesting feature to be able to set the expiration to let the user read the message only once. For proton-users, it would expire after the reader is changing selected message, and for non proton users, the link would work only once.
