Having the leeway to use multiple addresses for the same inbox is really important in my eyes as it provides a secure way to use an alias and still see it all collected in the same place. However, not having the ability to choose to keep them separate in their own inboxes (i.e different email inboxes for the same account) feels like you guys went halfway with it and then called it good. Giving the user the choice to disable the forwarding for the alias address to the main address and instead grant access to that email's inbox as its own would be really great, since it would play to the strengths of an already existing feature, and coincide with the two group of people who enjoy the alias feature as-is, and the group of people who question why they aren't separate inboxes.

By default they could be simple aliases that forward to the main address upon creation; no changes there. Then, you could also include a "convert to inbox" feature in the alias address's settings, which would disable whatever forwarding it's using and create a new isolated inbox for it.

Purchasing a subscription for 5 email addresses when in reality they only function as aliases is almost there; great for about half of the people, who want it all in one place. Just not super friendly for the other half of everyone who wants the capability to separate them and use them as actual functioning standalone email addresses.
