This is still critical for me. I'm looking for a migration path away from a provider that supports hyphen for aliasing. When I contacted Proton support about this in 2023, they said:

"we'd like to inform you that we are aware of this request, as it has been requested before, and we have added your vote to the feature request, so our developers can look into implementing such changes in the future.

Unfortunately, at the moment, we don't have any information on when this option would be available, and we cannot speculate on a time frame. Please note that we take all suggestions from our users into consideration, and we try to implement them in our future upgrades to make Proton Mail more user-friendly."

Even today, there are plenty of web services where plus addressing won't work or is not accepted, so this suggestion is still valid and relevant, despite its age.

Yet, it doesn't seem like this is getting any attention from Proton. At this point, should I just give up and look to move to a different (non-Proton) mail service provider instead? Does this issue need to reach a certain vote threshold before it is even considered by Proton?

This is critical for me. I am unable to switch away from a different provider that supports customisation of the alias indicator away from + (to whatever symbol you want) to Proton, because it is not supported.
